Santa Clara is not like most schools. It is a small, Jesuit university, and its strengths and weaknesses stem from that. The academics and facilities are top-notch, and the school spares no expense on the facilities. The size of the school makes it difficult to remain competitive in Division I sports, but baseball and men's and women's soccer are always contenders, and men's basketball has begun receiving national attention in the past few years. The social scene is limited compared to larger schools, but it is also less exclusive and stressful. So should you come to Santa Clara?
It depends what you want from college. If you want a high-quality education, you should definitely come; if you want Girls Gone Wild to do a special at your frat house, probably not. If you like surfing, skiing, hiking, climbing, or the outdoors in general, you will like the area; if you want to go clubbing four nights a week, you probably won't. If you're into drinking or smoking pot, the scene here probably won't disappoint you; if you prefer blowing coke or dropping E, it probably will.
