College Prowler Take

Simply put, the campus is safe. In past years, for example, serious crime on campus was limited to a half dozen cases of assault and one non-forcible sex offense. That is remarkably little crime for even a small college. The SCPD is very well funded, well staffed, and located directly across the street, so if there was an emergency, a swift response is pretty much guaranteed.

There are emergency phones all over campus, and Campus Safety is always patrolling the grounds; some students even think that the campus is a bit too safe (more on this in the Campus Strictness section). The only crime that happens with any regularity on campus is petty theft. As long as you lock your bike up and don’t leave your laptop lying around unattended, you should be fine.

For such a big city, it’s very safe. You hear the occasional rumor about roofies and date-rape or something, but that’s about it.

It’s never really occurred to me that campus might be dangerous. Campus Safety is so strict, and the police station is so close, that it’s hard to imagine anything really crazy happening.

You’ll be fine as long as you’re not an idiot. If you leave your bike or laptop laying around, it might get stolen, but that’s kind of your own fault.

You couldn’t get hurt on campus if you tried. If you got a paper cut, Campus Safety would show up and carry you to the hospital, and there’d be a write-up about it in the Santa Clara (student paper).
