Academic Flexibility at Santa Fe Community College

Academic Availability

The only complaint I have here is that our school fills up classes really fast, so I think they should raise the cap on how many people are allowed in. Credits transfer easily, especially since we have partnerships with a lot of schools in the area. There is an easy dual credit program, which I took advantage of. There's a variety of classes, and often I feel like I want to take too many credits per semester because they're all interesting. Our school has a huge cluster of medical courses, but it's not my career path, it's just really noticeable. Overall, the openness of a community college is very appreciable.

Academics at SFCC

Academics at SFCC range from hard to easy. Largely it depends on the subject. The more science or math you take, the more intense an instructor is about their curriculum. If you take artsy classes, chances are you will not be work intensive in class maybe even outside, but no class passes without stimulating the brain. The classes are small to medium in size, so there's no overload, and people feel obligated to pay attention and work. Workloads are very tolerable, and there is never a course without homework of some kind. Our school isn't very focused on one program in particular, being community oriented, there is a lot of everything.

Why I Would Choose Again

I love SFCC for how easy going it is, but also how if you want it to be, there is an academic spin to the classes. The teachers are for the most part efficient and directed, and I come away from the class knowing much more than when I came in. The work is challenging, or at least not easy, but you never left behind. There is always a tutor, or a teacher willing to give you time. There are small events, and nothing major, and the campus never feels like it's too full of people, which I really appreciate. All in all, it was a saving grace from high school.
