Tips for Getting In
  • Demonstrate that you're excited by opportunities to work independently in academics. This school has a DIY brand of learning, and anyone who applies should reflect that in their app!
  • Don't listen to your high school guidance counselor when it comes to writing the admissions essay for SLC. Creativity is key.
  • Show a passion for a particular subject/interest.
  • Show an ability to think deeply about academics as well as the world around you.
  • Think outside of the box. Sarah Lawrence is a place that fosters the ability to think freely and pursue your own creative passions.
Things I Wish I Knew Before Coming To School
  • Celebrate when you finish a big project.
  • Do go to the dance parties; don't bring your inhibitions.
  • Do your conference work before Conference Week and never skip conferences-that's essential bonding time with your professor.
  • Don't get bullied by your roommate(s)-always be assertive.
  • Finish the gym requirement your freshman year.
  • Go to the activities during First Year Orientation. This is the easiest way to get involved in clubs and meet people before the winter sets in and peeps migrate into their holes.
  • It is wonderful to finish conference work before Conference Week.
  • Take advantage of any visiting speakers or theater and music performances.
  • There is a network amongst faculty and students.
Interviews & Information Sessions
On-campus interview schedules vary; call (914) 395-2510 for information or to make an appointment.
Campus Tours
Campus tours are available at 10 a.m., 12 p.m., and 2 p.m. during the academic year. Tours last about 90 minutes. Prospective students and their families are advised to wear comfortable shoes. A self-guided tour is also available: www.slc.edu/media/admission/pdf/SLC_Self_Guided_Tour.pdf.
Overnight Visits
Seniors in high school and transfer applicants can make an appointment to stay overnight on campus during the academic year. You'll witness student life first-hand, as well as get a chance to sit in on a class, enjoy campus activities, and chat with residents. Meals are supplied, but a bed is not guaranteed-come equipped with a sleeping bag and a pillow. During your visit, be sure to ask students and professors honest questions about life at SLC-they love sharing opinions! Overnight visits can be scheduled Monday through Wednesday nights October through mid-December and February through April, and should be scheduled at least two weeks in advance.
