Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

With a recent change in food service companies, vast improvements have been made to all the eateries on campus. Bates Dining Hall has action stations featuring a variety of create-your-own meals with rotating choices of risotto, stir-fry, fried rice, linguini, and other dishes. The quality of meats has also seen an improvement with SLC students’ continued interest in supporting organic foods from local farms. Brunch still remains the favorite meal by far, and the health food bar is also enjoying new food items.

But perhaps the greatest improvement is the food at The Pub. What once was a greasy mess—sure to make your stomach upset—now is a completely renovated kitchen with new recipes. Students can create their own deli sandwiches on artisan breads and enjoy delicious paninis hot off the grill. All food is made-to-order and never stale. Unfortunately, the venue is understaffed and gets crowded at peak hours. Even though these are improvements, it is difficult to eat the same food every day, and most students opt out of purchasing a large meal plan after their first year. However, there are those few who eat SLC’s version of home cooking every meal of every day.

Not Bad, Not Great.

They have variety, and they have vegan/vegetarian/gluten-free options galore, but generally the food isn't too great. If you are comparing it to other collages i've eaten at, it's the best, but by restaurant standard it's only okay. We do, however, have delicious ice cream and desserts all year round- and we never get fat because our campus is on a big hill we go up and down! It rocks.

A healthy variety

The food at SLC is quality college dining hall food. Honestly students here don't appreciate how lucky we are. We always have vegetarian and vegan options, there is always a variety of meals at Bates (dining hall), and everything is made with quality and is health conscientious. The Pub is a great alternative, since it's hours are open late and those who work there are always extremely busy. Only complaint is that places get busy during peak hours. Smaller cafe-style are scattered around campus, such as in student centers or other facilities. The furtherst housing unit has its own mini-mart, which is fantastic because that housing unit also has kitchens. Many amazing perks to eating here.

It's All Right.

The dining hall's not so bad. Most kids prefer to eat there. I, however, prefer to eat at "The Pub," which is not a pub at all. It's more of a grill/sandwich place and I love it. It's a pretty sweet value for food you get.
