Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

The absence of fraternities and a recent increase in security means that nightlife can be a drag for those wanting noisy frat-style fiestas. When celebrations do happen, they’re swamped with party-starved students and, inevitably, broken up by authorities for being too crowded.

On-campus happenings at the Blue Room frequently have lines that wind out the door, but students seeking large-scale entertainment, bustling coed parties, or the high-end club scene head for the city. A revamped activities council has been broadening nighttime options with popular open mic nights, concerts, movies, dance parties, video game setups, and more.

Dead Except for Thursday-Saturday

On those three nights you can find anywhere from 1 to 3 open parties around campus. They're fun enough, but you'll want to get off campus regularly if you define your social life through parties -- or even if you don't.

Horrible!

The parties are awful and awkward and mostly very exclusive to friend groups. There is almost nothing to do on campus if your end goal isn't to get completely wasted and make out with as many people as possible. People are so stressed at Sarah Lawrence that all they do is drink themselves into oblivion on the weekends, and tend to be completely disinterested in nighttime pursuits that don't involve alcohol/drugs. It's fine, but the parties are all the same and do get old after freshman year.

Facts

Club Crawler

Want to go dancing? Want to rave? Sorry, this is not the place for you. Bronxville and Yonkers are devoid of dance clubs. Troubling as it is, be comforted by the fact that the hub of hip dance clubs—NYC —is just a train’s ride away.

Bar Prowler

There’re plenty of bars in Bronxville, but finding one that’s both affordable and accommodating to college students severely narrows the choices. Beer is more popular than shots, and buying drinks for your friends every so often is good bar etiquette.

Organization Parties

At SLC, you can register your party with Student Affairs and have as many people as capacity will permit. There will be a security guard present to make sure there is no underage drinking, but underage students get around that by drinking before showing up. For students over 21, though, free booze all night— or at least until the handles are empty.
