Unknown may apply. Applicants must be U.S. legal residents who are of junior high school, high school or college age. They must submit a videotape of a solo performance in order to be considered for the live semifinals competition. Selection is based on the quality of performance during the semifinal and final rounds of live competition.

A winner and a runner-up are selected in each division, and an overall winner is selected to perform with the San Angelo Symphony and will receive an extra $3,000.
