Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

There is a sizable substance-using community on Scripps as well as on the other colleges, but abstinence is respected, and most social scenes and social groups have a mixture of extreme, occasional, and non users. Most students do not feel peer pressure to conform or fit in through drugs. Most users on campus are not considered “hardcore,” and there are hardly ever any incidents of accidents or health endangerment. The drug scene is open but also kept low amongst students. Along the same lines, while drugs are obviously existent on campus, they do not pose a threat, and everyone basically just minds their own business. Students who wish to engage in drugs find relatively easy access, and students who are not interested in drug use, or are against it, do not generally feel anxiety or discomfort because there is mutual respect amongst students in regards to personal lifestyle. Groups on campus are not exclusive and acceptance is widespread. Moreover, support groups and professional services are readily available to students.

The drinking style on campus is mainly the weekend binge, and marijuana is not hard to find in certain circles. Mushrooms are fairly prevalent on campus as well if you know the right places to look. Other hallucinogens are more scarce, but they’re available.

Drinking Is Accepted

The drug scene here varies on which Claremont College you're at (many of the events have students from all five). Scripps campus has a semi-strict policy on alcohol and drugs, but generally people do it anyways. Harvey-Mudd has certain dorms that drink practically every night, and others that never do. CMC generally has a party every weekend, and Pomona has at least one or two parties a week. Many of these are school sponsored and have alcohol provided. Sometimes they card, sometimes they don't. Many people do drink, but there are plenty of people who do not.

Alcohol and Drug

The Claremont Colleges are a great place for parties. All the 5C campuses party together and there is alcohol provided for anybody who is a student. There are DJs at every party, as well as pizza. The parties are mostly themed. There are drugs prevalent on other campuses, but not much on Scripps. Most of the parties are held on other campuses, and not Scripps. Which is nice because Scripps campus is always clean and is quiet on popular party nights, except the few times a year when Scripps hosts the 5C parties on its campus. You don't have to go out and drink if you don't want to.
