Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

While the vast fields of grass, quaint gardens, and courtyards of Scripps' campus gives off an aura of history and past generations, there are plenty of modern facilities that are widely used by students. Facility improvement and expansion has been occurring at Scripps at a rapid rate. The Sallie Tiernan Field House is a state-of-the-art exercise facility complete with multiple exercise rooms, dance studios, and saltwater pool. There is also a performing arts center and music library. There is a balanced combination of tradition and modernity that adds to the beauty of the campus and the inviting atmosphere of the facilities. The only complaint that students have is that individual dorms are not equipped with individual, miniature facilities or up-to-par televisions, which forces everyone to gather at a central school facility. Also, there are very few pay phones, and the closest ATM vestibule is at Pomona College.

Malott Commons, the dining hall, is also home to SARLO (Student Activities and Recreational Life Office). SARLO offers activities, such as Sex in the City nights, and students can come to rent movies, games, or sign up for off-campus trips. The dining hall, student-run Motley coffeehouse, mailroom, and student store are accessible to students and are all conveniently set around the infamous Seal Court, a popular hangout spot where many students come to relax for a cup of coffee or study under the shade.

Beautiful, but Still Needs Work

If you have visited Scripps you know the school is incredibly beautiful. Everything is green, and something is constantly in bloom. It's rumored on campus that Scripps has the highest gardener to student ratio of any college in America. The field house is still pretty new and kept in incredible conditions. Each machine has cable available on it, and the machines are made specifically for women. There are classes offered for free in kickboxing, yoga, pilates, swimming, and so much more. Did I mention the pool? Out of this world. The Scripps library is a classic old library and is pretty, but there's also a 5C library that is one of the biggest in Southern California. The classrooms could be re-done, but for the most part they're nice. Overall, Scripps is a pretty great place to be spending four years.

Gorgeous, Pristine, and up to Date

The facilities at Scripps are gorgeous, to say the least. Our gym is quite new, but retains a Mediterranean charm. Most of the cardio machines have TV's and there are plenty of spaces for group classes, plus a workout balcony overlooking a picturesque area of campus. The Scripps library is very charming and has a Hogwarts feel to it. Plus, the enormous and modern Honnald Mudd library is nearby.

Scripps Facilities

The Facilities at Scripps College are beautiful. The most popular student hang out is in Seal Court, a courtyard at the center of the dining hall, Motley coffee house, Scripps store, and mailroom. The Motley coffee house is a great environment for casual studying or hanging out with friends. There are plenty of tables and comfortable couches and chairs. Scripps' dining hall, Malott Commons is pretty good. The layout is unique as there are four separate sections and the architecture makes for an intimate dining setting. The general aesthetics of Scripps is gorgeous. There are plenty of green lawns, fantastic tress, and the architecture is stunning. My favorite part of campus is the new athletic facility, the Tiernan Field House, which features a beautiful outdoor pool, exercise equipment, and an ideal stretching porch overlooking the campus.
