Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

Claremont is by no means a nighttime hot spot, and this applies especially to Scripps. The Scripps campus is traditionally the quiet campus, and so most students find events on other campuses or completely off campus. Organizations have small parties, but there are no fraternities or sororities to throw parties every weekend, so Scrippsies turn to the other four colleges. Every month or so, the Scripps College Council throws a themed party. However, these parties are known to be attended mainly only by a small group of Scripps students, and they tend to not be very popular due to more rigid rules and policies than the other schools.

Unless a student has a car or easy access to transportation, the nightlife is very limited. Even students with cars do not usually go out to bars or nightclubs because it is not worth driving to LA for a drink, and students usually only have that amount of time availability after finals or during breaks. The most popular forms of nightlife at Scripps consist of parties at other campuses and individual dorm gatherings, usually through friends or acquaintances. There are, however, selective parties throughout the year that are annual traditions and are known to attract large crowds from every college, and these would make up the high point of nightlife in Claremont.

Fun!

Since the school is part of a consortium, between the five schools there is almost always something to do at night. There are parties Tuesday-Saturday available to all students at no cost and there is almost always free alcohol. You can walk to any place on campus so you do not have to worry about transportation.

Parties

Though its not talked about, the 5Cs throw an awesome party. The best part of the Claremont Colleges is our open cup policy, meaning all students can drink with a red cup, even if they're underage. Instead of making campus safety out to get the students, they're only there to make sure we're safe.

Fun!

Scripps does not have a ton of big parties, but the other schools have many. There is always multiple things to do on and off campus every weekend and the challenge is just determining what you want to do.

Facts

Club Crawler

There are no real clubs in Claremont or the surrounding areas. In order to find a good club or find a place with music, dancing, and drinks, one would need to go to the Hollywood/downtown LA area. Most students stay on campus for the sake of convenience, or go and stay in LA with friends, because most events begin and end late.

Organization Parties

Most minority clubs throw parties throughout the year on all five campuses. While individual departments do not have parties, the individual schools will usually hold some kind of party each weekend; something is usually going on at more than one campus a night.
