Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

A long time in the making, the Scripps parking garage has solved many of the school’s on-campus parking woes. Keeping a car used to be considered a nightmare, and it was not uncommon to see students leaving cars in obscure—and sometimes illegal—corners of campus. However, the administration took notice and constructed a parking garage in the space below the Field House.

Besides solving the previous parking dilemma on campus, the garage may serve as incentive for students to bring cars to school, leading to more off-campus outings. Along with the existing spaces located near dorms and department buildings, the issue of parking does not look to be of future trouble to Scripps students.

Easy Parking

Permit Costs are only, I think, $100 per semester. Much cheaper than a lot of state schools. Most who have cars and are able to drive them down to California, keep them on campus. There is enough parking for everyone with a car. Parking fines by Campus Security are not really paid much attention too because they are not 'real' parking tickets.

Awful Parking

there is very little parking around campus and the parks are very close and small, as well as often in ackward positions. the parking structure helps but has odd hours that are often unhelpful. life is easier with a car but the school does not make it easy to have one

Accessible If You Need It

In 3 years, I've never owned a car on campus (though intend to bring one for my last year just because I can), but the parking garage always has empty spots, so parking is not at all a hassle. You must have a Scripps permit, which, as of now, costs $100 per year. That said, a student can get by without owning a car, but having a friend who owns one is a luxury, as some places are just only accessible by car. Students are able to rent vans from Scripps for a $20 deposit or rent a Zip Car, but it is much more convenient to have your own or a friend's car if you intend to leave campus often.
