Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

Scripps is located in sunny Southern California. That speaks for itself. We have sunshine for a great portion of the year, and natives find degrees in the mid 70s to be chilly or even cold. There is a lot of flexibility in the degree of temperature from day to day, and it is often unpredictable. Some days, especially in June, August, and September, get extremely hot and radically turn chilly the following week. There is no clear break in seasons, and the weather forecast is not very dependable. This is a huge pain for most, but not so bad when compared to snowstorms and heat droughts in other states.

During the winter, it gets cold enough for some people to wear heavy jackets and other winter paraphernalia, and it begins to rain toward February and March, which are pretty chilly. Nonetheless, avoid packing heavy rain gear, as most of the sun-loving student body will continue to don short-sleeve shirts and flip-flops in rainy weather. It is sunny for so much of the time that rain does not bother students most of the time and many even anticipate it. For the most part, though, everyone loves the heat, and the warm weather is consistent and beautiful.

Sunny With a Possibly of Some Clouds

Most of the time, it is sunny at Scripps (after all the school is located in southern California!) The temperature does drop during the winter months so its good to have a jacket. But compared to the upper midwest (where I'm from) the weather is perfect everyday!

Sunny

Coming from the East Coast, I am shocked every October morning I'm walking to class and it's already in the 70s & 80s! It's hard to keep a frown on my face for any length of time, though, when it is consistently so sunny outside. Whenever I DO see a cloudy sky/feel a rain drop, though, I get pretty excited because it feels like home!

Socal.

The weather is usually sunny for most of the year, but this spring it's been uncharacteristically chilly and/or rainy the beginning of the semester. That said, Claremont is definitely the best option if you want great, sunny weather for most of the year.
