Birth Control Available? Yes
It is available from the Health Center. However, birth control is made available as a medical option for students stemming from what the University feels is the importance of the relationship between medical care provider and patient. It is available for more than just its primary function, and it is present as an option for what the University feels is the students' best interests. This is unusual for a Catholic college; many do not provide the option at all.

Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

It becomes clear soon after you arrive at Seattle University how far the gender balance is tilted towards the female population. This can be a definite advantage for the straight male population, but don’t think that this means it’s a “guy’s choice” situation when it comes to looking for a date. This initially small male population, combined with the presence of a sizeable gay male population, has led a number of women to look off campus for potential dates everywhere from the University of Washington to local clubs and bars. However, many people, regardless of gender, still look for dates on campus, and there are available men and women for people of all personality types and orientations.

The types of people you have to choose from vary greatly, from the more laid-back and introverted, who like to just hang out in the Quad, to the outgoing and active who love a good game of Frisbee on the Green. You can meet people all over campus, though the Student Center, not really a center of life on campus, is probably one of the simplest places, if only because it houses C-Street, the Bistro, and any number of offices of various student groups. Another popular option is actually class itself, though you’ll always want to be careful there because if something were to go sour, you would be stuck with them for the rest of the quarter. Most students who are interested in pursuing something further tend to take it off campus, either to one of the many coffee shops within walking distance of school or one of the local bars. While people tend to favor more committed relationships at Seattle U, if you are looking just for a more casual arrangement, you can pursue that as well. There are options for everyone here.

Very Interesting Group

A lot of the male population is gay but htey all have very good style and personalities. The style of others is very interesting, you have preppy, athletic, hipster, typical seattle grunge and the occasionally hippy, tree hugging look.

The people here are really friendly. They are outgoing, welcoming, and always ready to help. Overall, probably some of the friendliest people I have ever met.

Raincoats

The guys and girls are pretty similar across the board - hip, in style, but being Seattle, we have to cover up to avoid the rain. Rainboots are a hot fashion item up here.

What kinds of relationships have you had since coming to school?

How would you rate the social scene on campus?

Facts

Social Scene

Students are decidedly friendly around campus. With the compactness of the buildings, it is easy to run into a dozen familiar faces on the walk from class to class. Most students enjoy the outdoor areas like the Quad and the Green as long as the weather permits, and there are clusters of people everywhere you go during the day. There are little or no problems with mixing and mingling. Engineers hang out with English majors, and nursing majors study with business majors; it's all a matter of whose company you enjoy best, and most everyone, it seems, enjoys company.

Hookups or Relationships?

Though there are a number of relationships on campus, hookups are far more common. With such a large female population, dating is all the rage, and due to the rather pitiful amount of male attention on campus, they have no qualms about seeking options elsewhere.

Best Places to Meet Guys/Girls

There are always opportunities to meet new people in life, and SU is no exception. Every time you open your door in the dorms or step on campus, there is the possibility of meeting someone interesting. Many relationships start just by hanging out in a dorm room, or grabbing a coffee after class. However, for the more adventurous, or for those who have spent enough time on campus to exhaust their options (which doesn't take long if you're a girl), a visit to the University of Washington (UW), a walk downtown, or a field trip out to the bar and club scene is a good idea. Despite living in an urban setting, a good chunk of the Seattle population is rugged and outdoorsy—REI is just down the hill, after all. Look down towards the gym at intramurals, and take field trips to go rock climbing or hiking, and you will undoubtedly run into yummy eye-candy and some great possibilities.

Dress Code

While basically anything goes at SU, there are four dominant styles of dress: the young professional, relaxed and casual, hippie, and hipster. They are better described as the ironed-collar-and-slacks kids, the T-shirt-and-jeans folk, the year-round sandal-wearers, and the ‘dare-to-be-differents.' In truth, as long as you wear it with conviction, it doesn't matter if you're walking around in a business suit or your PJs; the most important thing about dressing on campus seems to be expressing individual style. The fact that the campus is right on Capitol Hill gives a decided edge in terms of style. So just go for it—wear tennis shoes with your gauzy skirt, and go play Frisbee.
