  • ARC: Academic Residential Community.
  • Atrium: Piggott’s first floor.
  • Bannan: Science building.
  • The Bistro: Hawk’s Nest Bistro.
  • BonApp: Bon Appetit, the food service which serves the school.
  • CAC: Campus Assistance Center located on the first floor of the Student Center.
  • Card: The student campus card, or “Campus One” card, which gives access to your dorm, meal plan, and Connolly.
  • Casey: The Marguerite M. Casey building where many College of Arts and Science professors’ offices are.
  • Connolly: The Connolly Center.
  • Core Class: A class from one of the three phases of the core curriculum required for every student.

  • The Green: The largish lawn on the north end of campus.

  • The Murphys: Archbishop Murphy Apartments.
  • The Quad: The concrete plaza at the center of campus. Students come to study, hang out, or gaze at the fountain.
  • RA: Resident Assistant.
  • RHD: Residence Hall Director.
  • Schafer Auditorium: The one in the library.
  • Sullivan: A student on the Sullivan scholarship.
  • TBL: The Bottom Line.
  • Wycoff: A small auditorium on the second floor of the engineering building.
Things I Wish I Knew Before Coming To School
  • Be conscious of mealtimes.
  • Bring a laptop over a desk computer.
  • Bring clothes for all types of weather.
  • Don’t be afraid to e-mail your professors.
  • Go to all of your freshman orientations.
  • Many professors take attendance.
  • Take good care of your Campus One card.

For Those Who Love Social Scenes

Seattle University is full of students and professors who love social situations. The general masses are friendly, approachable and helpful. The student body is exciting and the faculty is eager to help when asked. If your a socialite, SU is the place for you.

Traditions
  • All School Barbeque: Held the first week back from summer, the All School Barbeque is in the Quad. It gives students a chance to meet up with old friends, make new ones, and grab some free food between classes.
  • Barrio Fiesta: UPC Barrio Fiesta is a cultural heritage event with food and dance performances put on by the United Filipino Club.
  • Battle of the Bands: Every year, the coveted honor of being the opening band for Quadstock is won at this event. The judges are local radio DJs or other members of the music industry, and the band must be comprised of at least one SU student in order to be eligible. Top prize guarantees a spot to play at Quadstock, as well as some other reward (one year, it was recording time in a music studio).
  • BSU’s Umojoa Ball: The Umojoa Ball is sponsored by the Black Student Union. A themed event, the ball includes entertainment, dancing, and spreading awareness about the African American tradition.
  • Career Expo: The Career Expo is the career information and networking fair held in spring quarter. Over 40 employers participate, and the event is exceptionally well attended by students looking towards life after graduation.

  • Bannan housed a nuclear reactor.
  • Duff McKeegan from Guns N’ Roses studied at SU.
  • The admin building is haunted.
  • The fine arts building used to be a trolley station.
  • The Lynn building used to be a morgue and is now haunted.
  • The McGoldrick building used to be a brothel.
