Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

The basketball team has countless televised games throughout the country and plays in the new Prudential Center in Newark. Seton Hall offers a variety of varsity sports that all compete in the NCAA Big East conference, such as baseball, softball, track, swimming, volleyball, golf, soccer, and tennis. The track and field team is led by John Moon, arguably one of the best short distance coaches in the nation. He has coached the United States Olympic Team to a few gold medals.

The real sports excitement on campus comes from intramurals. The intramural office offers more than eight different intramural sports throughout the year. In the fall, Seton Hall could care less that they don’t have a football program, because intramural flag football captures the campus. The league is split up into three different divisions, two all-male leagues and one coed league. Who needs a varsity football team? While other schools are watching barbaric football games on a freezing cold Saturday afternoons, the intramural athletes at Seton Hall play their hearts out for the love of the game on cool fall evenings. In the spring, the campus turns its attention toward the basketball and soccer intramurals. Soccer has been known to bring in more than 60 teams involved, with each team containing a minimum of five people. While Seton Hall may not win a Big East title anytime soon, the intramural sports on campus will make you feel like you are competing for the NCAA title.

No Support

The boys basketball team is overrated and is only greatly supported by the Freshmen. Too much money is spent on the basketball team than nessecesary. Women sports don't get as much support as they should.

Most Popular Sports

Men’s basketball is by far the most popular sport on campus. After that, the soccer and baseball teams have the most dedicated fans. Any other teams on campus probably see fewer fans than most intramural sports finals.

Most Overlooked Teams

While the basketball team is always under close surveillance, a lot of people overlook the school’s men’s soccer program. In 2007, the program had the 18th best recruiting class in the country, leaving hopes for a bright future.

School Spirit

It could be school spirit or just the hatred of rival Rutgers that makes the students go insane every time they play each other. Students make T-shirts, posters, and colorful cheers for the big event that brings them out by the thousands. When the team is winning or playing a good team, treat yourself to an eight dollar ticket for a men’s basketball game, which includes transportation to and from the Prudential Center.

Getting Tickets

You only need to buy tickets for men’s basketball. Season tickets run around $91. Every other sporting event is free to any member of the Seton Hall community.

Best Place to Take a Walk

The entire campus is gated, so taking a walk around campus in general can be a relaxing experience. Anyone looking to see the beauty of Seton Hall has to take a walk across the Green though, where most of the undergraduates spend any warm day.

Did You Know?

Intramural winners on campus receive T-shirts commemorating their championship, regardless of the sport.

Seton Hall’s baseball and soccer teams, which previously played off campus, now share a field only a few steps from the school’s library and gym.
