Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

One thing that will keep you from hanging out in the University Center the whole day will be your ability to hold down the food. The cafeteria switched from a place of vendors like Taco Bell, Pizza Hut, Carvel, and others to an all-you-can-eat buffet. A more appropriate description would be “all-you-don’t-want-to-eat,” as not too much of it looks edible, and it tastes even worse. There still is a section in the cafeteria where you can get pizza or sandwiches, but only if your parents own a small country. The prices are outrageous, and the food is a half a step above the buffet, so you basically are caught in a catch–22. One place where you can get a decent sandwich is upstairs at Pirate’s Cove. The Cove is a coffee house/Internet café that is a quiet place where you can get some work done. Their prices are very reasonable, but the service is a little slow.

In spite of the occasionally abysmal buffet, the food is generally better than you would expect from a college campus. Students on campus with a meal plan can choose between a lump sum of meals for the semester or a weekly stipend, both of which include a large amount of Pirate Dollars for use at any other food area on campus. Still, anyone who doesn’t have an iron stomach should learn quickly how to make their own things inside the buffet, sticking to a healthy diet of eggs, pasta, and self-made steamed vegetables.

You Will Miss Your Mother's Cooking BUT

No one can be your mother. The food is decent with a lot of choices. There are healthy choices but even worse there are a lot of unhealthy choices. The food does get repetitive but there is also the choice to cook your own meals, which is a nice change. There is also a coffee shop that serves amazing sandwiches. There are pirates bucks which you can use at certain restaurants and on campus at the pizza shop, Nathans, and salad bar.

Excellant Variety

The Seton Hall Campus cafeteria gets a grade of A+. They offer a variety of food stations that I never get bored of. I sometimes take samples of food from each station and make my own combination of a meal, which never gets boring. The quality of food is excellant and the staff is fun and friendly.

More Food Please?

The dining options on the campus are good, until about 4 weeks into the semester. You then get tired of the same things and start ordering out. The best place to eat is Nathans though and closes like 1 am in the morning. The buffet area is not all that great, but it is something to eat if you dont want to spend money.

Special Options Students can always visit one of the small shops off campus for a snack, with the Bonte Waffle House and Hot Bagels Abroad being two of the more popular stops.
Did You Know? Since all the residents are required to have meal cards, and the majority of commuters do not, residents often pass their card over a wall to get their commuter friends into the buffet. Just don't get caught. If you do, they will put a freeze on your spending.
