The computer system at Seton Hall is parallel to none, as each student is required to enlist in the school’s Mobile Computing program. This program provides every student a laptop, which includes all the toys you could hope for. Having your own laptop is great because there is no high-demand to use the computer labs, and most classrooms, and every dorm room, have Ethernet hook-ups. You probably will not need to use the Ethernet jacks, however, as Seton Hall has made the whole school wireless, so you are free to roam the Internet even on the Green. The program has great features like e-mail, as well as memory space on the main server. If your laptop is not working, or your buddy spills something on it, all you have to do is take it to PC Support, and they will fix any problem free of charge.
Computers are often brought to classes and are set up, so everybody in the same class has the ability to see the work that you are doing, kind of like a chat room. The drawback is that it is not free to enroll into the program, and if you lose your laptop, or it gets stolen (not uncommon), you have to pay for it. While deciding what to bring with you to college, a printer is an invaluable investment, and will make you pretty popular with the people on your floor. The computer labs are rarely full, but since they are the only places where you can print your homework, do not think you can just mosey in there five minutes before class and find one available.
