Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

Seton Hall’s proximity to Newark has precipitated a solid security system. In the past 10 years, they have enclosed the University with a large fence. The only way to get in or out of campus by foot is to swipe your student ID card through a magnetic lock system. To get into dorm buildings, there are student workers and guards who also check your student ID card. Recently, the school has hired the infamous Pinkerton Guards to roam around school. They’ve also installed emergency phone booths throughout the campus. If students do not feel safe walking at night, they can have a guard escort them to wherever they are going.

An area where security lets its guard down is at the two gates on campus where cars can enter. Each gate has a booth that is supposed to check for parking passes on vehicles or assign guest passes. Rather than stop though, anyone in a hurry can merely use the age-old password, give a friendly wave, and never have to worry about using a parking pass on campus. Still, once on campus with a car, having access to any dormitories or student-only locations would require identification.

It's Good for the Area

I have never felt unsafe on Seton Hall. It is in a bad area, but those people never actually come on campus. If you want a chance at getting robbed, leave campus after 11pm. I gave it an A+ because it asked what I thought about living ON campus.

SHU Security

Seton Hall has very impressive and strict security measures. Because of it's proximity to inner-city Newark, SHU has heightened gate security, and strict guest policies. Furthermore, it offers shuttle services at night to apartments off campus. Security often sends updates via text/e-mail, to alert students of any danger on/off campus. Also, the dorms at SHU are one of the most fire-safe in the country. There are many hazardous items prohibited in the dorms to ensure the safety of the students. I always feel safe at school, especially with security running 24/7 there.
