Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

A huge part of the party scene that made Seton Hall one of the best party schools in the nation was a storied bar called the Hall. Since an underage drinking raid a couple of years ago, the Hall has closed, and the students have been trying to find an equal ever since, but the quest continues. While no bar will ever match up to the Hall, there are many that find their niche. There is a certain schedule that the social scene also tends to follow.

Monday is a light drinking night at Rock Bottom in West Orange, the flagship bar of the New Jersey Devils, where there are dollar beers and shots. On Tuesday, everybody squeezes into cars to go to Diva Lounge, which is about 20 minutes away and offers an upscale atmosphere. Wednesday is the day that everybody attempts to cram into Jambalayas, a small Mexican restaurant that clears the tables from their dining room to make a dance floor. Thursday night is the biggest drinking night of the week because not too many upperclasman take Friday classes. So, the Seton Hall community faithfully flocks to either Cryan’s or the Gas Light. Friday night is normally when there are house parties galore, but you need to be a freshman, a girl, or a frat boy to get in. But any night of the week, a very important bar to keep in mind is Bunny’s in South Orange.

Nightlife at Seton Hall

The nightlife at Seton Hall can go both ways. If you're into going to frat houses then you can give the nightlife an A+ rating. If you're under 21 the bars in the area, New York City, and Hoboken are a little out of reach. Since many people go home on the weekends, you always see the same people at parties. That's not a bad thing but more variety would be nice.

Nightlife

It depends. Most frat parties are Thursdays-Saturdays but depending if you do greek life you can party all week. It also depends who your friends with and who you know and you can party whenever. Also there is a bar close by and a liquor store down the street from campus so it is easy to get liquor. Sometimes the parties can be lame sometimes and there are rarely any parties around finals.

Parties

It is really important the Seton Hall sponsors these parties because the surrounding neighborhood is not good for students to be involved in. However it is hard to get in these parties if you are not part of a sorority.

Facts

Club Crawler

New York City is home to the best clubs in the world, but the train back to South Orange stops running after midnight, so you need to drive after that. Abyss is a cool club in New Jersey, but Seton Hall kids have been known to turn regular bars into nightclubs wherever they go.

Bar Prowler

South Orange is a bar town, and Seton Hall students love their beer. Most of the campus does not have the money to go to clubs every weekend, so they bring the dancing to the many bars around town.

Organization Parties

There is always a dance going on Thursday nights in the University Center, usually held by one of the multicultural organizations on campus. Each organization generally throws a party for Christmas and at the end of semester for its members. No matter what though, there are always opportunities on campus to crash the end of parties for some free catered food!

Did You Know?

Cryan’s Beef and Ale has become such a staple of the Seton Hall student’s week that priests have begun having “Religion on Tap” sessions, where religion is discussed at the pub.
