Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

Parking on campus is, and always has been, a problem. In recent years they added a couple of stories to the parking deck, making it the second largest building on campus. Seton Hall has a large commuter population, and because of that, parking without a pass is impossible and costly. To park on campus you either need to be a commuter or a senior, and it is tough no matter how many letters your parents write to get you a pass. If your car is caught on campus without a parking pass, it is an automatic $50 ticket. If you get caught three times, then they put a boot on your car, or tow it a couple of towns over, in which case you must then repay all of the outstanding tickets.

Also, in South Orange, there is no parking on the street at night, and most streets only have three-hour parking, so there is no way to keep a car at school if you are living on campus. So, either try to buy a spot in a fraternity house’s driveway, or come to the realization that you will either be exercising every day by walking everywhere, or you will be confined to the gates. The tough part about not being able to have a car is that you are limited in the places where you can work because the public transportation does not travel everywhere.

Limited

i'm not a commuter, but i hear from faculty and commuters that parking is horrible. if you don't get there early, like 8am, there won't be spaces. and they are very strict with ticketing and the parking passes are pretty expensive.

Availability of Parking Spaces

Let's be honest, Seton Hall parking sucks. There are not enough spaces on campus (and the spaces are too small). If you have a morning class and your a commuter, plan on getting to school at least an hour early to find parking. Freshmen are not allowed to have their cars on campus while dorming the first year which kind of sucks because you stuck and bound only to where the shuttle will take you. However seniors are allowed to have their cars on campus -one of the perks of senior status!

Seton Hall charges any overnight visitor a parking fee to spend the night, and tickets all other unregistered cars with a $50 fee.

Getting a Parking Permit

Students who live on campus generally cannot obtain a parking permit until their senior year. Some on-campus students who are affiliated with programs that require off-campus work may be able to obtain parking passes before their senior year.

Did You Know?

Best Places to Find a Parking Spot:
The top floor of the parking deck, but it’s a long drive up.

Behind the Recreation Center, most students think that it is employee only parking.

Under Serra Hall, if you do not have a pass, park there. Most guards are too lazy to check stickers under there, and it would be tough for a tow truck to get your car out.

The Boot!
If you accumulate three or more parking tickets, you better watch out! Your car will get this nice bright orange lock on your wheel. If they run out of boots, then they have your car towed a couple of towns away!
