Quaint in the Day, Dangerous at Night

South Orange is the only village in New Jersey and great pains have been take to keep it attractive as such. Unfortunately, the same lengths have not been take to protect the members of its community. This semester alone, there have been a dozen, and rising, muggings and beatings, thefts, acts of vandalism in South Orange. That doesn't speak anything of the murder of one of our community at a party in nearby East Orange. South Orange is nice, but situated next to the mean parts of Newark, Orange and a short trip from East Orange; one doesn't want to venture far at night, if at all.

Safety Not So Safety

Personally, I have never experienced it, but Seton Hall dating back 10 years ago, has never been known for being safety. 10 years ago a fire at a dorm killed a few students. In the past year, there have been many incidents of kids getting robbed. It does not help that SHU announces everything in detail through email. I understand you want to let everyone know and make sure they are careful, but it doesn’t make me feel better about safety.

A few months ago, a student was shot at a party and died at an offsite location. A month ago, a girl was walking late and was harassed and sexually assaulted in the parking deck. I don’t know about you, but this stuff is not safe.

They have tightened up security on campus, but I do not feel it is where it has to be. I would have security guards walking all over campus 24/7 if I was the president. This bad publicity hurts the University and being located next to the city of Orange does not help the cause.

Hope this helps!
