Very inclusive, though there's no pressure to join. All parties are open, so you can have just as much fun without joining Greek life. Most students join a fraternity or sorority during there time at Sewanee, but plenty don't. There is a wide range of types of frats and sororities to join, so there's something for everyone.

Parking is consistently available, though not always near where you need it. However, Sewanee is designed to be a pedestrian campus, so you really don't need a car for anything other than leaving the town.

Residence halls are beautiful and generally well-kept, though responses to maintenance requests are slow.

Sewanee has a fantastic nightlife if you like frat parties. There are no clubs or bars nearby, but there are at least three or more parties going on every weekend night. These parties are open to everyone regardless of age or Greek affiliation and provide alcohol. Many parties are themed and are often used as venues for student bands and DJs. It really just depends on whether or not you crave the city scene nightlife, or a house party/frat kind of night life because you will only find the latter of those two at Sewanee.

Sewanee is mostly white upper middle class kids, however there is still a visible international body, as well as a small African American population. Even though there isn't a ton of diversity, everyone treats everyone the same, and no one is ever made to feel like an outcast if they are of a minority.

Unfortunately there are no easy public transportation options at Sewanee. Most students have a car, so if you don't have one, you can find rides to the CVS down the road or wherever else you want to go, pretty easily. There is a shuttle that goes to the Nashville and Chattanooga airports regularly that costs about $40. If you have a car, I recommend bringing it.

There is only one dining hall on campus however it has several options. In addition to the dining hall, you can use your student ID at two other locations on campus to purchase food as well as a on campus coffee shop.

There are lots of drugs at Sewanee, mostly alcohol and marijuana. This is a party school, don't let anyone tell you otherwise. When you live far away from civilization on a mountain with a bunch of kids, there are only so many ways to have fun. Although there are many harder drugs such as cocaine and LSD circling around, the most visible sort of drug use is alcohol. There is very little restriction of alcohol use on campus as all the frats have registered parties that provide alcohol to all students. That being said, Sewanee's safety system is extremely effective. There are cops at all parties making sure people are drinking responsibly. There is also a bus called Bacchus that will pick up students anywhere on campus and take them to their dorms, as well as the EMS that will take students to the hospital in worst case scenarios. All this being said, there are still opportunities on campus for students who do not drink, but you have to be prepared to feel awkward at times because the majority of the Sewanee student population are drinkers. There is also a very large number of cigarette smokers.

Sewanee's campus is absolutely beautiful and offers a wide range of opportunities for students both inside and outside the classroom. The domain of the University of the South is one of the largest in the United States. The library located on central campus contains a wealth of books, movies, articles and other useful materials to be used for student research and studies. Most dorms are a short walking distance to central campus where all academic buildings and the dining hall is located.

The late summer is extremely hot and humid, average around 85, but then the fall months are gorgeous and sunny and warm (ie 50s-60s-70s until November) then it starts to rain a lot and snow some during December and January and February with the temperatures varying from 60s to 20s. The spring is extremely rainy until late April, and then its back to being sunny and 70s again. The most distinct weather feature of Sewanee is the fog. Because the school is on a mountain (plateau) fog gets stuck on campus and somedays is as thick as pea soup! Overall the weather is pretty decent.

The greek system at Sewanee is extremely laid back. Although about 80% of the campus is involved in Greek life, all Frat parties are open to anyone regardless of their position in a Greek organization. There are just as many activities to do on campus if you are not involved in the Greek scene, but the Greek scene is always a great way to make new friends. Sewanee has a huge assortment of fraternities and sororities that fit every personality type and are all very accepting for the most part. The Greek scene makes the weekends particularly exciting because there are always at least three or four huge, and safe, parties going on that everyone is invited to.

People look out for each other at sewanee that's simply the culture of it. But beyond that the university pays to have students at parties that are equipped to handle any person who gets too intoxicated and take care of them, but not get them in trouble. There is a predominant drinking culture but drugs are significantly more difficult to find, you really have to look.

Guys & Girls:
Guys and girls are extremely attractive at Sewanee. People know how to dress, everyone is extremely intelligent, and we are all here for the same reasons.
College Sophomore 2013-05-22T21:47:24Z
Everything on campus is within walking distance, this being said, if you are not okay with going out to frat houses on the weekend, there is no nightlife.

Sewanee has open computer labs in most academic buildings. There are computers available for use throughout the library. Macs and PCs are available in the ATC, but this area can be extremely crowded and hard to work in. If you need a computer to use, you will find one.

The teachers at Sewanee are wonderful and are very dedicated to their students. The small class size allows them to work one on one with students when need be and builds better relationships between students and professors. The advisers really care about the students and are always there to help. Teachers and advisers work outside of office hours, keeping their schedules flexible to meet their students needs.
College Sophomore 2013-04-30T02:08:32Z
There is a lot of smoking and drinking present on the Sewanee campus. Most students partake in going out and do so most nights of the week, while a large portion of the students also smoke on campus. While smokers are supposed to remain at least 50 feet away from all buildings, few do so. Also, faculty and staff all accept the large population of students that drink each weekend, and some week nights.

The Acedemics at Sewanee are wonderful. What makes Sewanee truly special is the close relationships between advisers, students, and professors. There are small class sizes and a variety of courses to explore.

There are always available computers in the library because they have computers on all 3 floors. However, other academic buildings also host computer labs open to student use. Each student is allowed more than enough money for printing per semester and the printers are always in working condition. The internet reliability is very low and somedays it barely works. However, the school is currently working on making the internet and wifi more reliable.

The campus and town always has different activities to attend. Sewanee is a small town and there is little to no shopping except for grocery stores, however, Chattanooga and Nashville are only an hour away. The campus is very safe because it is well lit and we have our own police office with officers always on duty. There are different sports teams that compete year round and locals will come to the sporting events or even University sponsored events.
Sorry, there are no reviews.
