College Prowler Take
Students are smart about their behavior on campus, and the balance between responsibility and behavior is reflected in the tone of campus strictness. You are more likely to get a request from a neighbor to turn down your speakers than be monitored for drugs or alcohol use. Unless your behavior is stupid enough to result in calling attention to yourself, there is no need to be paranoid. Quiet hours deter most drunken students from screaming through the quad, though not all of them. Parties on campus are never large enough to call attention—only so many people can squeeze into a dorm room the size of a closet. The security guards patrol for unwanted visitors and parking violators, but they aren’t looking to find students to punish. It is hard to find an incident that calls for more than a visit to the Honor Board or Judicial Board. Students are responsible for their behavior, and security is geared more toward student safety and protection than the monitoring of their behavior. Alcohol and drug violations are addressed by the Residence Campus Judicial Board, and academic violations are addressed by the Honor Board. You are more likely to be caught with a hotplate, wall hangings, or other fire hazards than to be reprimanded or caught for illegal behavior. So don’t try to sneak into Bartol or walk off with a plate, and if you have a candle, beware! Academic violations are taken very seriously—cheating and plagiarism are prosecuted. Students must sign Honor Code contracts at the beginning of their time at Simmons.

Simmons is on the list of most sober schools in the country, but this just means we find other places to party—this is Boston. As long as you aren't obviously partying in your room or come back from a party puking in the halls, no one will really say anything.

They like to pretend they're pretty hardcore about it, but I don't think people ever really get caught. And if you do, I think you just get written up.

Campus police are strict when it...
Campus police are strict when it comes to breaking the law, so if you do drugs and they find out, there are consequences. Drinking on campus is allowed if you are 21 because we have wet campus. If you come home drunk, they only get involved if you get really sick and need to go to the hospital. You will get in trouble if caught drinking in your room underage, so be responsible.

They are relatively strict, but they are also lenient for first offenses. My advice: just don’t get caught. And don’t live in South Hall just because it’s nicer if you drink or do drugs, because it’s not worth it. |
