Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

Students are smart about their behavior on campus, and the balance between responsibility and behavior is reflected in the tone of campus strictness. You are more likely to get a request from a neighbor to turn down your speakers than be monitored for drugs or alcohol use. Unless your behavior is stupid enough to result in calling attention to yourself, there is no need to be paranoid. Quiet hours deter most drunken students from screaming through the quad, though not all of them. Parties on campus are never large enough to call attention—only so many people can squeeze into a dorm room the size of a closet. The security guards patrol for unwanted visitors and parking violators, but they aren’t looking to find students to punish.

It is hard to find an incident that calls for more than a visit to the Honor Board or Judicial Board. Students are responsible for their behavior, and security is geared more toward student safety and protection than the monitoring of their behavior. Alcohol and drug violations are addressed by the Residence Campus Judicial Board, and academic violations are addressed by the Honor Board. You are more likely to be caught with a hotplate, wall hangings, or other fire hazards than to be reprimanded or caught for illegal behavior. So don’t try to sneak into Bartol or walk off with a plate, and if you have a candle, beware! Academic violations are taken very seriously—cheating and plagiarism are prosecuted. Students must sign Honor Code contracts at the beginning of their time at Simmons.

Quite Lenient

Public Safety and Res Life would like students to believe that they have strict punishments for misbehaving students, but this simply isn't the case. While they do take rule breaking, such as underage drinking or illegal use of fire extinguishers (long story), seriously and they do well to scare the living s*** out of you if you're caught, you are usually let off will little more than a warning or academic probation.

Not So Strict

Simmons has such a great reputation that students don't need to sign in their guests, which is great and so much more convenient than other schools. When it comes to theft or crime in the area, Simmons police always sends out informative emails and makes sure everyone is safe.

Not Very Strict

one good thing is that simmons is not very strict with its rules in terms of guests and such. but academics are pretty strict which is annoying as they are not very helpful.
