It would seem that in such an urban environment, the campus would have more security measures, but students generally are comfortable with the precautions taken. The flexibility of Simmons’s policies is generally appreciated by students who feel like an adult and not like they are still under their parents’ watchful eyes. Within the iron gates of the Residence Campus, students generally feel a strong sense of security. Each night, the security staff locks the entrance gates to the quad, and they are also closed during Red Sox home games. Students and their guests are then required to enter through Simmons Hall, and entrance is available only through swiping an ID card.

After dark, an escort service is provided for students for the walk over. On-campus security personnel patrol the residence buildings and the Main Campus Building. Two police officers dedicated to the College with a support staff of unarmed officers. There is much debate over the people in these positions because many of them are Northeastern students filling co-ops. As an added measure, students are given the option of withholding their phone number, which provides anonymity and additional safety, not to mention protection from prank phone calls.
