Advice on Finding a Job/Internship
The internship experience is a required part of a Simmons education. Different departments have different requirements; the communications department, for example, has a structured internship class, while other departments require a presentation at the end of the internship to gain credit. The Career Education Center hosts internship search workshops for students seeking help. When students start their search for jobs, the Career Education Center once again proves helpful for preparing students with résumés, reference letters, or mock interviews. The close connections students have with faculty also become useful when looking. For seniors, the selective Success Connection Program connects students with Simmons alumnae. This group of seniors shadows an alumna at her job to get an in detail perspective about their field. Each department has their own requirements for internships and independent studies, however, students should be on the lookout for their own internships. The Career Education Center's library is full of internship books, and each student should set aside time to riffle through them.
