Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

In the city where Cheers is a real bar and everyone knows your name, Simmons students opt to go off campus to do their partying. In other guides, the College is often misleadingly written up as a sober college or a dry campus. On the contrary, students pride themselves for being smart enough not to endanger themselves by partying hard on such a small campus. Of-age students are allowed one open beverage in their room, and drinking is permitted. The bar scene in Boston is full of variety. Some students prefer the pub atmosphere, while others are attracted to the glitz of club life. Lansdowne Street is the closest area for Simmons students looking for a drink or a place to dance. Filled with dance clubs and bars, it provides an unusual mix of trendsetters and Red Sox fans looking for a beer after a game.

Unfortunately, in a city where cost of living is high, entertainment is not any different. Cover charges are often overly expensive and can cut deep into a college student’s budget. Many students head out early to get in on a lady’s night rate or on the guest list. The early closing of the T cuts into the length of partying, and there is not much nightlife past 2 a.m. On the hunt for a good time without a cover charge, first-year students often try the frat scene at Boston College or under-21 clubs on Lansdowne. As students get older, opportunities grow. For a good house party, the apartments in Mission Hill are a good bet, though local police are slowing this area’s legendary college party scene down.
