College Prowler Take

Freshman waistlines beware: While the quality of on-campus dining is debatable, the Boston area provides a wide variety of cuisine suitable for any taste. The diversity of Boston brings with it a range of Latin, Asian, Italian, and fusion foods. There is something for everyone—especially if you are willing to experiment. It is often very difficult to decide where to go. The unique Little Italy area of the North End provides the perfect date spot, while Chinatown provides authentic Chinese food. Peterborough Street, also known as “restaurant row,” is close to the College, although it recently suffered a fire and lost several restaurants. For a classic taste of the familiar, there is a Burger King, Longhorn’s, a Subway, and a McDonald’s nearby. In the food court of the Longwood Towers, you will find other food chains, as well.

During the treacherous winter, Ankara and Hidyan Café become Simmons students’ favorites. Both restaurants offer late-night delivery and menus with a range of sandwiches, pizza, and salads. It is not rare to see the same delivery guy several times a night. Frozen yogurt (fro-yo) is a favorite for study groups, with add-ins like Snickers, Heath, or the more exotic avocado. The prices at restaurants reflect both the upscale culture of the city, as well as a willingness to adapt to a college student’s budget.

There are so many good restaurants off campus that www.campusfood.com will be your best friend as far as delivery food goes. There are some awesome restaurants right in our front yard—Longhorn, Hidyan, Brown Sugar, Indian Samraat, Chipotle, and the list continues. There are really good cheap places and other nice ones, such as Petit Robert. All these places are definitely within walking distance.

I love the restaurants in...

I love the restaurants in Boston—there are tons of options. The restaurants in the Simmons area aren't the greatest, but the really epic ones are just a short cab or T ride away. I love Chili Duck, Cafe Jaffa, Sonsie, Island Hopper, Thai Basil, and tons of others.

There are several good restaurants in the area like Brown Sugar (Thai), Bertucci’s, Uno’s, and more. However, you can take the T to Newbury Street, Harvard Square, or Central Square, and you can find absolutely any type of food you can think of.

Um, it’s Boston—the restaurants rock. Hidyan’s is just a few blocks away, and they have the best frozen yogurt. Don’t go to D’Angelo’s, it’s kind of gross. And then there’s Cold Stone right nearby, for when you have the cash for a real pick-me-up.
