Overall ExperienceWhat's This?

It is the mix of extracurriculars, academics, environment, and nurturing that leads Simmons women to enjoy their experience. The surprising amount of transfers into the College supports the claims of students. Students who have survived their first year, with all its ups and downs and acclimations, seem to be happy with their decision. Dix Scholars, the older undergraduates on campus, are welcomed just as much as students coming into school at the traditional age. Community is valued, and the support benefits all undergraduates. Close-knit relationships with faculty and instructors catapult students into their professions and evoke tears when it comes time to graduate and say good-bye.

Being in Boston provides professional opportunities for its students when it comes to picking internships and finding jobs after graduation. The urban environment fills a social gap that the absence of Greek life or men on campus could create. The winters pose a challenge to out-of-state students not used to the area’s rough and extremely cold Nor’easters. The weather is not the only environmental challenge. Though the all-women’s environment often takes getting used to, students are generally happy about their decision and excited by the chances of involvement and leadership that not being in a coeducational situation provides. Students at neighboring institutions often share horror stories about being just a number in their school’s eyes—this can’t be said about Simmons. This is not your typical college experience. Students come here to study and experiment with their identity, growing socially and academically. Simmons students don’t just come to school to party, but to become women.

Simmons College Drug Safety was reviewed by silvermirror26
A

There is a very small and limited drug scene at Simmons. Some people smoke pot, but anything crazier than that you will need to go elsewhere. Emmanuel is a safe bet for finding a much more diverse drug-using community. Drinking is much more popular but even that most people will leave campus for. We have an unsaid rule of going to party at other schools and leaving our campus untouched. During finals there is a small amount of drug activity for ADD pills and such, but they mostly come from Emmanuel.

All of the computer labs at Simmons College are very good, generally up to date with minimal lag time for loading/logging in. Wifi is free on campus so personally it is easier to have your own laptop then to go down to any of the computer labs. Though if bringing a laptop to school is an issue then honestly its not that big of a deal to just use the school computers.

Sports here on campus at Simmons College is a large part of the college experience. While we may not have most sports other college's or universities offer, the sports here attract a lot of attention of the student body and the general area. The Simmons Sharks have a great standing with each of the sports respective conferences/leagues. Our school is currently in the process of building state of the art training/workout facilities specifically for the varsity sports teams along the Charles River. For those who aren't into the highly competitive end of sports, IM sports are always a great alternative. There are a number of IM sports in the area as the Fenway area of Boston offers up a number of schools to play with. An example of how diverse the IM's in the area could be either the Quidditch team, which just started this year, or the Rugby team that was started a few years ago. Both attract a number of people from the surrounding colleges.

Simmons College Parking was reviewed by pierct
B

Parking on campus is not too bad, if you are alright with walking 5 minutes from the academic campus and paying a $12 fee when you leave. If you are trying to get parking right next to the residence campus or on the residence campus, its generally not too hard but it can run a bit of money if you choose to park on the street with the parking meters.

Simmons College Transportation was reviewed by pierct
A+

Public transportation is very good in the Boston area. Whether you need to take the T, which is the subway, or a taxi, it can be very affordable. Simmons in general has public safety that no matter the location or the time, they will pick you up and bring you back to campus. This definitely makes things easier to deal with and there really is no need for other forms of campus transportation because there already is affordable transportation through the T which runs throughout the entire city. There is a t-stop that is very close to the residence campus (2 minute walk) and there is another t-stop that is really close to the academic campus (4-5 min walk).
