College Prowler Take
It would seem that in such an urban environment, the campus would have more security measures, but students generally are comfortable with the precautions taken. The flexibility of Simmons’s policies is generally appreciated by students who feel like an adult and not like they are still under their parents’ watchful eyes. Within the iron gates of the Residence Campus, students generally feel a strong sense of security. Each night, the security staff locks the entrance gates to the quad, and they are also closed during Red Sox home games. Students and their guests are then required to enter through Simmons Hall, and entrance is available only through swiping an ID card. The Academic Campus is only two blocks away, and resident students walk the Fens to and from class confidently—the only thing that poses any threat is weaving between cars across Boylston. After dark, an escort service is provided for students for the walk over. On-campus security personnel patrol the residence buildings and the Main Campus Building. Two police officers dedicated to the College with a support staff of unarmed officers. There is much debate over the people in these positions because many of them are Northeastern students filling co-ops. As an added measure, students are given the option of withholding their phone number, which provides anonymity and additional safety, not to mention protection from prank phone calls.

Simmons has a very safe Residence Campus. I like how there isn’t much partying going on, because it feels like home. You can go out in the city to have fun, and then you have a quiet safe dorm to come home to. |

Our safety is well sought out for,...
Our safety is well sought out for, keeping in mind Boston is a city. We are always alerted about any dangers in our area, they also lock the gates if there is any danger. Sometimes it is scary because some students do not follow safety procedures when letting someone in to the residence buildings. |

Security and safety, I believe, is well-kept on campus, but as always, be cautious about leaving your door unlocked or letting in someone you do not know. Even though we live in the city, inside our Residence Campus, it is our own little gated community. |

There are security guards...
There are security guards everywhere, but they’re not so strict with students that you can’t bring people by. I feel very safe on campus, but not smothered. And a lot of the Public Safety people are college students themselves (Northeastern co-ops); don’t worry, it makes them very relatable. |

There’s a security station at the entrance to campus, and the gates lock on Res Campus at 11 p.m. If it’s late, there’s someone that’ll walk you from the Academic Campus to Res Campus. |
