I am a transfer student, so I have not lived in the freshman/sophomore dorms at Simpson. I have heard that the dorms are small, but the options for juniors and seniors are excellent. Apartments, Greek houses, and theme houses are all spacious and in great condition!

Simpson College campus is always clean and beautiful. The buildings, scenery, and foliage are consistently well-maintained.
Program-wise, the Elementary Education program is fantastic. The advisors and professors do everything they can to help students. Also, the TRIO (Student Success Services) program is a great help to students like myself who are dealing with general or financial stress, test anxiety, counseling, and tutoring.

Varsity sports at Simpson College are a big deal. Football games are always filled with school spirit, and basketball games are as well. There are usually emails, posters, T-Shirt offers, and events promoting sporting events campus-wide. It is great!

The weather in Iowa is unpredictable. I don't blame Simpson at all, but when it snows or rains, the walk to class seems a little long. The sidewalks are always plowed during winter, and that is very helpful. During winter storms, classes are usually cancelled because of professors commuting from Des Moines (city 10-15 minutes away). I think Simpson does a good job of handling the weather.

Life on Simpson campus is wonderful. The scenery is gorgeous, and it is obvious that such hard work is put into it every day. Buildings are always kept clean, and campus grounds are maintained regularly. Living on Simpson campus is just as good. There are many housing options. I live in a campus apartment, and it is a great size and in great condition. All of Simpson's dorms, apartments, Greek houses, and theme houses are in excellent condition and worth living in. There are also many campus activities every day. Posters and emails are a great way to spread the word, and it works. Along with all of that, the staff is very caring. Simpson College is a great school.

There is hardly any off campus apartments. Everyone just lives on campus all four years. The only time people live off is over the summer.

Indianola is very small with a Walmart and a couple of fast food places. Luckily, it is right near Des Moines so as long as you have a car it is difficult to get too bored here.

The freshman dorms are the best maintained. They are new and clean but once you get out of freshman living, the quality slowly dissipates. My junior year I was living in a tiny, beat up apartment with three roommates. Since most students live on campus all four years, upperclassmen fight very hard for the "best" apartments.

Students are required to live on campus all four years, or however long they are a student. We have amazing options for student housing including dorms for all first year students, sweet stile living, and tons of on campus apartments. No one option costs more than the other and all residence halls are well kept, include individual temperature control, and have most basic necessities. The only downfall is that there is no option for married students unless they petition to live off campus, and if you live off campus your scholarships are reduced.

The policies involving underage drinking and drug use are pretty strict, as they should be; however, policies involving other social issues are pretty lenient. At Simpson we take academic dishonesty very seriously. If you do get in trouble in the residence halls most of the time you are given a warning for the first incident after that you are written up and/or fined.

The Greek community at my school is responsible for organizing and coordinating community and school events that positively effect the philanthropy of the Greek house. No one is criticized for not being involved in Greek life, or for being involved in Greek life. There is no specific stereotype that is linked to Greek life at my school.

They have room for improvement, they offer criminal justice classes on and off campus, the better more interesting classes are off campus. This is a problem for student athletes, and students with out transportation.

There is always something going on if you want to go do something. On the weekends the student advisory board will put on many events from concerts to bingo night to ensure there is always something fun to do for students. They encourage activities that do not involve drinking to create a fun and safe environment.

I love the exercise science program at simpson. They are very hands on and allow you to work with actual students to get more experience. The classes are awesome with instructors that will go out of their way to make sure you get the best understanding of the class as possible.

Health & Safety:
I feel very safe on campus and they are very good about educating us on what to do if we ever need help or medical attention. The health facilities are very nice and helpful and the security will make sure if you need a ride home or do not feel safe somewhere they will be there right away to help you and are very nice about it.
College Sophomore 2013-08-04T03:48:27Z
I have not done an internship yet, but at Simpson College they will help find you an internship when it is time for you to do one. They are very helpful and will help you create great connections to get you jobs in the future.
College Junior 2013-07-29T01:32:22Z
The freshman dorms are right in the middle of campus and are pretty nice to live in. Of course, you have to deal with other freshman and their shenanigans, but overall, they are nice to stay in.

There is not much racial diversity and people don't seem to talk much about other types of diversity. But, they don't seem to discriminate, either.

Unless you really like pizza, there are not that many places to eat in Indianola. But, Des Moines is close and they have a lot more to offer.
College Sophomore 2013-07-21T16:46:37Z
The cost of parking at Simpson is not too expensive. However, freshmen get the short end of the stick because most of their parking is quite a walk. However, most the streets near campus allow parking, which can be a closer walk.
College Sophomore 2013-07-21T16:44:47Z
There is not much to do in Indianola, but Des Moines is very close with many attractions. Simpson tries to put on events for the students on weekends as well, so there are things to do. Also, late movies are cheap for students on the weekends, which is nice.
College Sophomore 2013-07-21T16:41:54Z
Simpson is pretty strict about alcohol and drug use. First-time offenders get a warning, and it gets worse if there are more offenses. However, when there was one empty can found in a room with 5 people, the people in charge were very rude to the students and didn't allow much explanation. So if you are going to do any of those things, be discreet and make smart decisions.
College Sophomore 2013-07-21T16:38:15Z
Simpson College wants everyone to live on campus, and they deny many people to live off campus. It probably could be cheaper to live off campus, but it is hard to do.
College Sophomore 2013-07-21T16:35:43Z
There is a variety of majors available at Simpson College. If you aren't one hundred percent sure if you want any of the majors, you can also create your own major. I love the campus because it is smaller, and it is easy to get to classes. All the professors I've had have been great because they care about the students. I also love all the study abroad options that are available especially with May Term.
College Sophomore 2013-07-21T16:30:58Z
I attend Simpson College, and I am an Elementary Education major. The professors in the program are wonderful. They are all there for you for your classes and on a personal level if needed. There is a elementary school right next to campus, so field experience is very easy to complete. I could go straight to my field experience after a class, and I didn't have to worry about driving or getting a ride. It is very easy to graduate in time, even if you are unsure of your major freshmen year.
Sorry, there are no reviews.
