College Prowler Take
Campus housing is divided into two Quads: North and South. Jonsson Tower, Howe-Rounds, Northwoods Apartments, and Wait Hall comprise North Quad. Wiecking Hall, McClellan, Penfield, Kimball, Wilmarth, and Scribner Village Apartments comprise South Quad. Every dorm, with the exception of Wiecking Hall, has a laundry room, lounge with cable TV, and is arranged in suites. Each suite contains three to five rooms (the maximum number of people you share a bathroom with is six) and a bathroom. Every room on campus has a window seat. North Quad dorms are air conditioned, have bigger rooms, and (with the exception of Tower) window seats with three cushions (imagine a full-sized couch) instead of one. Half of Howe-Rounds is devoted to substance-free living (no drugs or alcohol), Wait Hall houses an Honors floor, and Tower houses Campus Security, the Counseling Center, Health Services, the College’s radio station, and a quiet floor.
Though it changes slightly from year to year, South Quad has a reputation for parties and jocks, while North Quad has a reputation for being nicer and quieter. Upperclassmen can live in Scribner Village, which is on-campus apartment housing with air-conditioning, kitchen, living room, porch, and bedrooms for four to seven people. Northwoods Apartments, a new addition to campus, offers the option of a three-bedroom loft with all the necessary amenities—they even come furnished!

The dorms are very nice and usually spacious. Every room has a window seat, and you only share a bathroom with about five other people. The closets are huge, and most kids have more than enough clothing to pack it full—if that doesn’t say something about the student body, I don’t know what does! |

Avoid Tower—it is a scummy dorm because people peed in the elevator this year, and you can smell things burning if you know what I mean. Penfield and McClellan are the party dorms, and Wait and Howe-Rounds are the quiet, nice dorms. Overall, the dorms are nice if you and your suitemates take care of them properly. Each room has a window seat, and doubles are as big as two single rooms plus a little. Single rooms are as big as doubles in other schools. |

Did You Know?Every dorm room on Skidmore’s campus has a window seat. In South Quad and Tower, the window seats are one cushion wide and in North Quad doubles, they are three cushions wide (imagine a full-sized couch). All the dorms in North Quad have air-conditioning. And all the dorms on campus have study rooms, laundry rooms, computer labs (though some are small—Tower’s only has two computers), and a lounge with a television and basic cable. Every floor has a kitchen and a lounge. Each room in Howe-Rounds Hall is equipped with a thermostat so that you can control your room temperature. All the dorms are coed, with the exception of several women’s floors. That means that you might have members of the opposite sex living right across the hall (but don’t worry, suites are always single-sex). There are two sets of on-campus apartments, Scribner Village and Northwoods Apartments. Both are available to all Skidmore students, though the chances of getting into one of these as a freshman are slim to none unless you have upperclassmen friends. Being that the Northwoods Apartments are newer, they are considered to be much nicer and are much harder to get than Sribner Village apartments. All of Skidmore’s dorms are smoke-free.
