Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

Campus housing is very good at Skidmore. Dorms and campus apartments are divided into North Quad (Howe-Rounds Hall, Jonsson Tower, Northwoods Village, and Wait Hall) and South Quad (Kimball Hall, McClellan Hall, Penfield Hall, Scribner Village, Wiecking Hall, and Wilmarth Hall). All of the dorms, except for Wiecking Hall, are set up suite-style, so there are rooms that are offsets of the hallway, and a cluster of approximately four rooms share a bathroom. The suites are generally arranged by gender, though there is gender-neutral housing in Wiecking. First-year students are generally put into triples, and the College is continuously renovating the dorm rooms so that they are no longer "forced triples," but there are equal closets and desks for three students. Sophomores can either be in doubles or singles, depending on the lottery number for a housing option. The doubles are extremely spacious, and the singles are lovely. Dorm rooms all have window seats, which are a nice addition to a college dorm.

The dorms are all incredibly close to everything on campus, a perk for those early-morning classes. Typically, freshmen and sophomores live in the dorms, unless they are invited to live in Scribner. Students are not allowed to move off campus until junior year. There are two on-campus apartment options: Scribner Village and Northwoods Village. While Scribner Village is a popular option for juniors, it is in the process of being knocked down and completely rebuilt. Northwoods is a popular option for seniors. Both apartment villages are furnished in both the living room and the bedrooms. Northwoods Village has either three-person or four-person apartments, and is definitely considered "better" and newer than Scribner, though that will all change. But, in the meantime, Scribner has a bit of a dirty reputation, and that is where most of the on-campus parties are hosted.

Not as Great as It Is Supposed to Be

The residence halls are average sized with most freshman in triples. The Scribner Village Apartments are a dump to put it nicely, but the Northwoods apartments are incredible, very, very nice but extremely hard to get.

Diverse

I really like living in the dorms, I only wish they all had thermostats in each room. The other problem is on campus apartments are too expensive.

Great Dorm Living

The dorms at Skidmore are great. You live in them until your sophomore year and then one can either find off campus housing or live on campus in apartment style housing. Good sized rooms and all are close to the classrooms, dining hall, library, student center, bus stop, etc.
