Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

If you are smart (i.e. don’t have glaring loud parties or carry uncovered cases of beer into the dorms), Campus Security will not bother you. There are Resident Advisors (RAs) and Hall Coordinators (HCs) in every dorm, and these are students in authoritative positions. Some are more lenient than others. If you are lucky, you will have someone that will give you a break every once in a while. But this doesn’t mean you should take them for granted. Rules are there for a reason.

It has become much harder to have an on-campus party. Students that are 21 or older can get into serious trouble if they are found drinking with minors. Even if you don’t actually buy the alcohol for your friends, you are still responsible. Getting “written up” is what the College calls getting caught breaking rules of some sort, whether it is noise level, alcohol, or drugs. This can put you in a position of embarrassment, because if you do get caught, you are sent to the integrity board which then hears your case and decides what the appropriate punishment will be. The consequences will vary on severity of the incident. If this becomes a habit, you will be in danger of suspension. Become friendly with Campus Safety patrollers; if can never hurt to be on their good side from the start. However, if you are worried about getting busted, the best idea is to get off campus.

Taking Care Is Key

They will be strict if they feel it necessary. If you're amiable to Campus Safety when they catch you smoking, sometimes they'll let you go with nothing but an unofficial warning. If something is obviously wrong, like going to the hospital, then of course you'll get punished. Just be careful. Don't be obnoxious about your smoking or drinking and go show it off to anyone. It's all about common sense.

Campo Won't Chase You

Unless you're really stupid or the campus security guy had a bad day, you'll almost never get in trouble. People smoke pot with campo walking right behind them and don't even get a warning.
