College Prowler Take

The bottom line is that drugs are available in the on and off campus scenes. Alcohol and pot are considered the most prominent, although cocaine takes a close second. Alcohol is not as big a problem at Skidmore as it might be at a school where a Greek life exists. Some sports teams have initiation rituals, but hazing is generally unheard of. For the most part, alcohol is not Skidmore’s most prevalent drug. The school is actually infamous for marijuana. There are known dealers among students and this information is easily accessible. If people are smoking weed in their dorm rooms, it is likely that an RA, HC, or nosy student will smell it and report it. But many students seem to find their way around this.

The positive side to Skidmore’s drug scene is the idea that they are available if you are into it, but there are plenty of kids that are not, so pressure is not a factor. The scene is not one in which drugs will be in your face. It is often the case that certain groups of students will be associated with the drug scene, however, it is not obvious who does and who doesn’t. There was once a rumor that claimed David Letterman named Skidmore as one of the top 10 pot smoking schools in America, but this might just be something some pothead fabricated. There are definitely stereotypes when it comes to Skiddies and drugs, but it can’t be denied that some are well deserved when there is a plethora of students walking around barefoot saying things like, “Dude, did you see that?” Some kids might consider Skidmore to have the best of both worlds in terms of lifestyle preferences, but Campus Security is trying to crack down on student drug use.

Woooooooah man, like—what? There is weed a plenty, and there’s coke if you hang around the theater long enough. Skidmore is more of a drinking school. Oh yeah, you like uppers? We’ve got those, too.
