Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

Skidmore is a small college with a small campus. The facilities around campus are easy to access, and are all within walking distance from each other and the dorms. The dining hall, renovated in 2006, matches the rest of the buildings on campus, while looking new and modern inside. Case Center, the student center, is a large, three-floor building. The dining hall and Case Center are at perpendicular angles to each other, so they frame the main green on campus. Alongside the green are also several academic buildings which, for the most part, are organized by department. Case Center is located on Case Walkway, a covered walkway that extends from one end (near the dining hall) all the way to the art building—a great help for rainy/snowy days! Along the walkway is an outdoor seating area followed by the Scribner Library, which has four floors not including the basement. There are public computers on all of the floors, as well as multiple seating options: tables, desks, even window-nooks. Behind the Case Walkway extends another green that opens toward a small pond. This is also near the modern Tang Teaching Museum and the sports and dance centers. Finally, there is the Arts Quad, which stretches beyond the art building toward Filene Music Building, JKB (Janet Kinghorn Bernhard) Theater, and the Arthur Zankel Music Center.

The campus is undergoing a series of renovation projects. The Arthur Zankel Music Center, which opened in 2010, is the newest building on campus, but the library is undergoing renovation to extend seating options (a needed change), and on-campus apartments in two separate locations are also in the midst of construction. In terms of other projects, students would like to see the sports center get more equipment and be updated.

It Could Be Better

Not perfect but pretty close. PS the dorms aren't as good as they are made out to be. Major downer.

Some of the Best Facilities

The facilities here are very nice. The pool is open a lot and you can always go swimming with your friends. The gym is great too you never have to worry about it being too packed to use and the famous in total is kept very clean! Plus the library is always welcoming with its comfortable chairs and couches.

Student Life Is Amazing

Though the gym is small and there just aren't enough computers in the library, I would have to say that the quality of campus life makes up for all of that. There are a lot of different clubs on campus, and it was a huge part of my life at Skidmore. Participating in Student Government and club executive boards were truly the highlight of my college career; not only was I able to meet amazing people, but I was able to build up useful skills that would help me in the future. Even if you don't actively participate in clubs, these clubs bring the festivities to you! Clubs are always hosting campus wide events for students so that there's never nothing to do! From concerts to banquets, student life is amazing.

Another highlight of Skidmore is the wonderful Dining Hall, or D-hall as we affectionately call it. It's a modern looking dining hall, very comfortable complete with a pasta station, international station, pizza station, vegetarian station, desserts, and more! The egg station is also quite popular, where you can make your own omelets on an open griddle. It's an amazing dining hall and has really spoiled me!

Facts

"Green" Initiatives

Skidmore is continuously working to become a greener campus. Eleven buildings on campus have geothermal heating and cooling systems. The Give and Go program donates reusable items that college students tend to throw away at the end of the school year. There is encouraged, free public transportation to downtown Saratoga and to the mall. Dining Services supports local farms; there is even a farmers' market in Case on Fridays.

Favorite Things To Do

Go to the SPA on Friday and Saturday nights sometime after 10 p.m. and before 2 a.m. for a late-night or after-party snack.
Hang out with friends in Case Center. If you have an unlimited meal plan, go to the dining hall just to sit with your friends (and maybe get an extra bowl of cereal or some soft serve). Go to the gym to work out or swim with your friends during open pool hours. When the weather is nice, sit on the green with your friends (and the rest of the campus will be out there, too).

Did You Know? Falstaff's is named after Shakespeare's joke-cracking, beer-drinking, all-around lovable character, Sir John Falstaff.
