Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

Skidmore is a small school, and it has proportionately nice facilities that are generally stocked with up-to-date equipment. Activities tend to center around eating and movie watching. Extensive theater facilities offer a plethora of productions each year. The dance theater hosts dance performances, the Cabaret Troup production (Skidmore’s musical theater group), and an African drum ensemble performance. The main theater building houses two theaters and several workshop spaces. There are two main-stage productions per year, two black box productions, and about a dozen workshops. And, once a year, the AIDS Benefit Group stages a musical theater production in the big gym. If it’s music you like, SEC (the Student Entertainment Company) puts on what they call the “big show” once a year in the big gym (think Talib Quali, Jurassic Five, and Ben Folds). Falstaff’s features Skidmore bands, Lively Lucy’s Coffeehouse once a week, and the occasional WSPN-sponsored show (think Thursday, the Figgs, and Matt Sharp from Weezer). The number one complaint about academic facilities is that their hours are inconvenient. Palamountain Hall houses a number of computers and comfortable work spaces; however, the building closes at 11 p.m. and
Campus Security does not hesitate to kick students out, even during finals week.

Students often complain that there is nothing to do on campus, and despite the long lists of potential activities, on a Friday night, one is often left with the feeling that there is nothing going on. But this may be a matter of taste, lack of promotion, or lack of student motivation. To find out for yourself, try an overnight stay.

The facilities here are very nice. The pool is open a lot and you can always go swimming with your friends. The gym is great too you never have to worry about it being too packed to use and the famous in total is kept very clean! Student Life Is Amazing

Though the gym is small and there just aren't enough computers in the library, I would have to say that the quality of campus life makes up for all of that. There are a lot of different clubs on campus, and it was a huge part of my life at Skidmore. Participating in Student Government and club executive boards were truly the highlight of my college career; not only was I able to meet amazing people, but I was able to build up useful skills that would help me in the future. Even if you don't actively participate in clubs, these clubs bring the festivities to you! Clubs are always hosting campus wide events for students so that there's never nothing to do! From concerts to banquets, student life is amazing.

Another highlight of Skidmore is the wonderful Dining Hall, or D-hall as we affectionately call it. It's a modern looking dining hall, very comfortable complete with a pasta station, international station, pizza station, vegetarian station, desserts, and more! The egg station is also quite popular, where you can make your own omelets on an open griddle. It's an amazing dining hall and has really spoiled me!

Need Revising, but Have Character

The facilities on campus could definitely use a renovation, specifically academic building bathrooms and classrooms. However, part of the campus' charm is precisely the way some buildings are very outdated.

Favorite Things To Do

At Skidmore you can: see a free movie on Saturdays (Totally Free Movies) and Sundays (FLIC), grab a bite to eat at the Spa or the Burgess Café, work out at the gym, go swimming, see a play, see a concert (a capella, orchestral, student bands, jazz in the spa), relax on the Green (if it gets warm), shoot pool, or play video games at the Spa.

During the day, it is common to see Skiddies playing Frisbee or guitar or just relaxing on the Green. Saturday nights, you’ll find Skiddies getting something to eat at the Burgess Café, partying in dorm rooms, chilling at a bonfire in North Woods, or watching the totally free movie on Saturday. When the Sketchies, Skidmore’s sketch comedy group, show their new episode, Gannett auditorium has standing room only.
