College Prowler Take
There is no doubt that Skidmore has a reputation—girls, girls, girls. Most of the male population undoubtedly recognizes that the ratio leans in their favor. Most of the incoming classes are about 60/40, girls to guys. Students tend to judge the men more harshly than the women. The women of Skidmore are known to be attractive yet often intimidating, as these liberal ladies speak their minds. The downside of a smaller school is the rampant gossip that can get to you. The female portion of Skidmore tends to be cliquey, and snobbery is surely not obsolete. The men of Skidmore are also notably good looking, though many girls complain that height is a lacking characteristic they make up for with big egos. The ego-factor is also a part of the surplus of women around campus. Girls swapping flings with a friend is a common scenario. Dating exists, but according to students, it seems to be minimal. Hookups are more common, and girls often complain that guys have more power in the dating scene than women. If you want to hookup, the opportunities are prevalent. If you want a relationship, it might take some luck, but there are plenty of couples on campus. Skidmore welcomes relationships of all kinds. Gay men and women are common to Skidmore. In terms of the fashion sense on campus, students fall mainly into preppy and hippy types, but there are plenty of attendees that fall somewhere in between.

If you like girls, Skidmore is awesome for you, so good job. Most people of both genders are pretty hot, but there are more girls than guys. There also seem to be a large number of guys who have girlfriends at home or are gay. Though these guys are great as friends, it does make things difficult for a single girl. |

The guys definitely have the upper hand at Skidmore, so girls, be prepared to play games and potentially get frustrated. And guys go to it! Just enjoy hanging out with all your friends and try not to get caught up in it all. |

Well, for one thing, the split campus is about 40 percent guys, 60 percent girls—so girls be warned. If you are looking for a dating scene, keep looking. |
FactsBirth Control Available?
Yes - Female students who have had an exam with Health Services can have their birth control prescriptions filled at Health Services.
Social Scene
The social scene revolves around dorm and house parties, going to the bars downtown, attending shows on campus, relaxing on the Green during the nice weather, and just hanging out with friends.
Hookups or Relationships?
Skidmore is generally known for its hook-up culture. There are, of course, people in relationships, but often students note the lack of actual dating that goes on.
Dress Code
The majority of Skiddies go for the Abercrombie/American Eagle/laid-back/outdoorsy/preppy look. There are a lot of designer jeans (usually ripped, of course). Next, there are the outdoorsy climbing types who wear Carhardts and carry Nalgene bottles. This group bleeds into the hippies with their old ripped T-shirts, patched pants, dreadlocks, and funky headbands. The artsy kids always seem to have clay, paint, or charcoal all over their funky dresses or unique thrift shop finds, and there are one or two indie-rock kids running around.
