Skidmore's Campus Safety is a 24-hour resource on campus. Commonly referred to as "Campo," Campus Safety officers patrol the campus day and night via the Campus Safety vehicles. Their presence is certainly known, but not overbearing. The officers are there to help you more than to get you in trouble, though it is Campus Safety who breaks up on-campus parties. Students can call Campus Safety for a range of issues, from a personal safety concern to helping too-drunk students to just helping get into an apartment if a student is locked out. Most students feel safe walking around campus alone, though some students feel more comfortable walking in groups. The campus is generally well-lit, and there are blue-lights in multiple locations around campus. Students generally feel safe about their belongings on campus; it is common to leave your belongings in the library while you grab lunch.  

The health center is open Monday through Friday 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. (closed between 1 p.m. and 2 p.m.), and Sundays from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m. (walk-ins only). Health Services offers many services, including immunizations, men's and women's health, medications, and a nutritionist. Some students feel as if Health Services is mediocre in quality, but it certainly has a lot to offer in services.

They Care Alot...But Aren't the Brightest Bunch.

This year I had a sinus infection- easily treatable, that turned into a massive infection and led to me spending 2 weeks at Saratoga Hospital (which is an incredible hospital btw). The nurses care so much at Skidmore but just are missing marbles and prefer to put a bandaid on a cut that desperately needs stitches (figuratively speaking). Campus safety is the same way but they break up parties and are much less intelligent then Health Services and some are ex-marine so you really don't want to get caught partying. You always feel safe walking around at night, even as a single female.

SAFE

I feel safe walking around Skidmore all hours of the day or night and have never felt at all threatened or uncomfortable. Campus safety is present and always willing to help.

Safe

The campus is a very safe and friendly environment. Campus Safety can be annoying at times, but they are usually very kind and helpful. Most of the campus is well-lit and, since Skidmore has a relatively small campus, there are many people close by. As far as health, Health Services is not ideal. They either do not have the ability or the authority to help students with certain ailments. They do provide contraceptives and STI tests.
