Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

Nightlife at Skidmore definitely sees a divide between the eligibility to go downtown ("DT") or not. Until you're 21 (or until you have a fake ID that works), you're limited to on- and off-campus parties. On-campus parties usually happen in Scribner Village. Some parties are held in Northwoods, but those are usually less open. Scribner parties consist of overly packed houses as soon as freshmen find out about the get-togethers—sad, but true. Off-campus parties are usually larger simply due to larger spaces to host people. There are certain off-campus houses that, year after year, have a reputation for having parties, so students look forward to those parties, as well. If you're not at an on- or off-campus party and you're still under 21, there are usually other things going on. Small bands at Falstaff's are always fun and are a guaranteed plan. Comedy groups and a cappella groups will often have performances on the weekends, as well, so that's a great way to spend your night—or start your night!

However, if you are 21, then on- or off-campus parties/events are usually just the precursor to "going DT." Downtown, there are lots of bars from which to choose. Usually, you'll start off on Caroline Street and go to bars down there, or you'll go to Irish Times, Peabody's, or The Parting Glass. Bars stay open until around 3:30 a.m. to 4 a.m., so going downtown ensures a late night of partying.

Friends = Parties

Don't try to be one of those freshman that crashes private hang outs that upperclassmen are having. If you have friends you go to parties so just chill out.

College Has Flawed Policy on on-Campus Drinking

The college's drinking policy is deeply flawed, treating students like campers, not adults.

WOOO! Par-Blearererar

If partying is what you want to do, then Skidmore is a place where you'll find it. Despite a new and tougher Alcohol and Other Drugs Policy, Skidmore students can be found on just about every weekend partying. If you don't like to party, that's cool too. I'm sure there's plenty of homework you can do in the meantime.

Facts

Club Crawler

The following is the best (only) nightclubs in Saratoga. They mostly draw local Saratogians with a smattering of college students. A lot of students prefer venturing down to Albany when they really want to go dancing.

Bar Prowler

Saratoga is said to contain more bars per capita than any other city on the East Coast. During the school year Skidmore students dominate the bar scene; however, depending on which bar you visit, there are local Saratogians, young professions, and the occasional sketchy old guy. The following bars are the most popular among Skidmore students:

Closing Time

4 a.m.

Cheapest Place to Get a Drink

DA's or buy your own (pregame)

Organization Parties

Skidmore organizations often sponsor parties, most of which are held in Falstaff's.

Did You Know? In the past, there have been an abundance of off-campus house parties every weekend during the warm months. With the introduction of Northwoods and the fact that more students are living on campus, the amount of house parties has decreased over the past few years, though every now and then you will hear of something going on off campus. Don’t expect too many parties in the frigid winter months because people tend to bank on large yards to host big parties. Come springtime, the off-campus parties will quickly increase, and you can expect to spend at least a few Friday nights fighting your way through a crowded house to try to find the bathroom, the keg, or both.
