College Prowler Take

Freshmen are allowed to bring cars to campus, but there is a $100 per year fee. There are usually plenty of spaces for students living off campus coming to class for the day. Case Center and the lot behind Palamountain Hall fill up the fastest because they are the most convenient. When Case Center becomes full, there are usually cars with hazard lights on lining the perimeter of the lot. This is an acceptable trick if you are just running in to grab your mail, but fair warning: there has been the occasional absent-minded student that got caught up in chatting and later found a dead battery.

Most students that live on campus in Scribner Village (about a seven- to ten-minute walk) walk up to campus, but there are those that choose to drive and end up wasting more time circling the lots. There are three lots, which are available for overnight parking, but are approximately a 10-minute walk from the dorms, and four commuter lots, which are only available during the day. On the weekend, you can park anywhere, but if you forget to move your car, a parking ticket will cost $20, and the fee for an unregistered vehicle is $40. Don’t forget to check snow plow schedules which are in affect for the majority of the year considering the typical weather. A nice tow fee will remind you if you don’t remind yourself. There is will always a parking spot somewhere, but sometimes it will be a long walk home (and in the case of North Lot, a long walk in a relatively unlit area).

I think Skidmore students are spoiled by the parking situation. There is a great deal of parking, students just complain about having to walk for a few minutes to their car.
