Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

Having a car at Skidmore is affordable and an option for all years. A parking permit is $55 per semester or $110 for the entire academic year (you'll need a new permit every year). Those prices apply to every student with a car, regardless of where he or she is eligible to park. If you're living in the dorms, your car must be parked in (the large) West Lot or (the small) Wait Lot—this goes mostly for freshmen and sophomores.  Although some spots can be farther from some dorms, there will always be a spot available. If you're living in Scribner Village (juniors and seniors), there are parking spots in front of each house. For the Northwoods Apartments, there is a large lot to the side of the apartments as well as 30-minute parking spots. Finally, if you live off campus, you can find a spot in several other lots on campus, including Palamountain, Case, sports center, and Zankel Music Center lots. These spots are also shared with faculty, so it can be difficult to find a spot—leave yourself time before class!

The bottom line: Skidmore is a small campus, and a "far walk" for Skidmore students is, in reality, a short walk. So, though students complain that sometimes their car is parked "far" away, they'll probably reach it in less than a five-minute walk.

The parking lots are almost always full and campus safety pretty much follows you are campus just looking to ticket you if you park in the wrong spot.

Parking

There never seems to be enough open spots in the most popular parking areas. While it's a small campus, and no where is really THAT far to walk, rarely can students find a parking spot near the library or student center- that's where visitors and faculty also park so it's limited.

Skidmore Parking

There is a real lack of parking close to my dorm. However, there is always spots far away. The cost to register and park a vehicle is a lot of money to make up for this limited parking. Campus safety gives out a lot of parking tickets if you aren't in the right spot. There is no clear parking for visitors.
