College Prowler Take
The college’s Campus Security guards are available 24 hours a day. They are on-call and can be contacted for reasons ranging from locking yourself out of your room to helping your roommate regain consciousness. Due to the small campus size, they have a fairly quick response time and take threats to student safety very seriously. Campus Security vans prowl the campus at night, guarding the school and often stopping to break up loud, chaotic parties and bust underage drinkers in dorms and Scribner Village. There are also 16 emergency blue-light phones around campus that connect directly to the Campus Security office and activate a blue flashing light. Someone will immediately come to the particular spot, even if it is simply a matter of needing an escort. If a serious threat arises, Campus Security will increase patrols and work with residential life and, if necessary, the Saratoga police to ensure student safety. The dorms are kept locked at all times and can only be opened by residents of that dorm. (Don’t worry—there are call boxes outside each door, so you can call a friend to let you in.) The buildings are frequently patrolled, and at night, there is always a member of Residential Life staff on duty. Theft occasionally occurs, but reports have been minimal. Overall, the area of Saratoga Springs has proven to be quite low in crime, and the campus is widely known as private and secure. Health Services are convenient. Their office is conveniently located in the central dorm, between North and South Quads. Most of the nurses are very personable, to say the least. The social workers, on the other hand, are not well-used resources, and this is for a reason. They are notorious for over-analyzing and even worsening some emotional situations. Students tend to be more comfortable talking to friends about problems, but despite their reputation, social workers are available for those who need an outside opinion or advice.

I have never felt unsafe on campus. They do have blue lights all around campus, but it’s nothing to worry about. |

Safe. The only time kids ever get hurt is due to their own negligent behavior. |

I have never had any problems with Campus Security. They seem to be fairly strict about things like breaking up parties, when they can find them. But I do think that a lot goes on that [they] either ignore or don’t notice. It just depends on chance whether a really quiet party will get broken up or a loud one will be allowed to continue. |

I feel totally safe on campus. Sometimes you hear reports of people wandering onto campus, but there are lighted pathways and tons of emergency phone booths. If students don’t feel safe, they can always get a Campus Security escort. I have never felt unsafe on campus. |

I feel very safe on campus, and my only real complaint is that the campus could be better lit in places. |
