Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

The length of the weekly police blotter is prime evidence that students don’t get away with much on campus. Campus and downtown Slippery Rock are tag-teamed by campus police, borough police, and the occasional state trooper. Students must then walk into the residence hall, inebriated of course, and pass the Resident Assistant keeping watch over the flock. If they are cautious, students can easily get past night security with the ol’ beer-in-backpack trick to congregate and drink in dorm rooms. Usually, dorm room gatherings consist of quiet card games and movie nights—the quintessential campus party is nonexistent at SRU. Some community assistants have been known to look the other way when they see students with booze, as long as rooms don’t get rowdy. Their main concern is preventing students from spending too many nights in the emergency room.

If you want to party, go off campus. However, local cops can smell a good time from a million miles away—and it stinks to them. Be smart about where you go—avoid outrageously large house parties and have a grand escape plan if you happen to be underage. On nights like St Patrick’s Day, when wild partying is commonplace, the local cops often show the compassion and understanding that truly make them who they are by setting up random DUI checkpoints all around campus and tailing every vehicle in sight. One final note of valuable advice: Do not pee in the bushes, especially the bushes right outside of the party. The cops will catch you with your pants down every time.

Its a drug free campus. Quiet hours in the dorms are put in place but not always followed.

Strictness

I've never been in trouble and I've never seen anyone get in trouble, and going room-by-room in my dorm, probably 60% have alcohol in them every weekend, no busts. The police and Community Assistants leave you alone if you're responsible. If you're not, they're pretty hard. just doing their job.
