Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

Slippery Rock guys and girls are, for the most part, a diverse bunch of crazy kids. The girls here are not afraid to show some skin during the warmer months, but during the winter months, you’ll find most students—guys and girls—warm and cozy in sweats and hoodies. Most guys seem to have a laid-back sense of style, primarily wearing T-shirts, jeans, and sneakers. The overall student attire at SRU is relatively preppy. There is the occasional computer geek, punk rocker, or art guru, but, primarily, you’ll see students wearing American Eagle, Hollister, or other preppy brands.

Casual relationships and hookups are not a rare occurrence, upholding the party school stigma in a very sexually charged atmosphere. Many students are not strangers to being “sexiled” from dorm rooms, while their roomies do dirty deeds with mere acquaintances. However, there are some students with morals and monogamy, and many students have rings on their fingers before graduation day. Overall, campus is a mixed bag of attractiveness and morals. There is always someone for everyone, even if it’s just for one night.

Attractive School

Slippery Rock is an attractive school. There are plenty of the jock-type around here, but there's a bit of everything.

Girls Are Better Looking Than the Guys

There are only a few hot guys here. The girls are generally better looking than the guys, but there are only a few hot girls here too.

Facts

Social Scene

SRU students run the gamut in terms of looks, personality, and overall attitude. Everyone here, at one point or another, is looking to have a good time. And for the first couple weeks of the semester—and the last couple, as well—SRU often seems like the prototypical party school. The warm weather, along with the carefree attitudes of new and returning students alike, make for some crazy off-campus outdoor parties and cookouts. However, the monotony of social events and venues on and around campus, the often-frigid weather, along with a number of rogue Slippery Rock Police officers make sustaining the festive atmosphere—of what was once the premier party school in Western PA—impossible. With that said, SRU has its share of cliques, and even those who were the most social students in high school can feel shut out here, initially. Going Greek, however (see the Greek section), will greatly increase and expedite your chances of making friends sooner, rather than later—whether or not they’re the right friends is another matter.

Hookups or Relationships?

Many college students are usually too immature or promiscuous to have steady relationships while at school. But, as students become juniors and seniors, the number of students in steady relationships increases. College is supposed to be the best time of a person’s life. With that said, many students choose to stay single for their first couple years.

Best Places to Meet Guys/Girls

Students of both sexes will not have to look hard to find hotties on or off campus—although, most agree that accurately identifying hotties is much easier during the warmer months, due to the scarcity of clothing on many young individuals. On campus, students can find love at first sight in a number of places—anywhere from the ARC to the library. SRU can be a very social college, and meeting people will not take much of an effort. The real challenge is trying to find that special someone and keep them all to yourself.

Dress Code

During the day, students dress casual—jeans, T-shirts, or sweats. SRU attire as well as Pittsburgh Steelers and Pittsburgh Penguins paraphernalia are also popular. Most students choose to dress comfortably. You won’t see many girls wearing high heels or guys wearing dress shirts unless they are required for a class speaker or assignment. There are a few students who put a lot of effort into their appearance, but most opt for comfort. Some even take it so far as to wear pajamas to class!
