All Apartments Are Different

There are several choices for off campus housing ranging from very cheap to very expensive. In some apartment complexes you also have the option to pay all of your semester's rent up front and just pay for utilities monthly. You also have to pay attention to which ones come completely furnished and which ones you have buy your own furniture for. All of the apartments are within walking distance of the campus so it's okay if you don't have a car.

Greek Life

Greek life isn't what television hypes it up to be. Slippery Rock doesn't allow hazing, which is violent or embarrassing acts on the pledgers so that they can be accepted into the greek house. The Greeks do charitable works, and they don't really view themselves higher than other students, which makes them very acceptable to the rest of the student body.

Everyone is on the same boat and is treated with respect towards one another and everyone seems equal

Going Greek Is the Way to Go!

Greek life on campus is a huge part of students lives. Students that belong to a fraternity or sorority hold pride in the organization they belong to. You will always see students on campus wearing their Greek letters with pride. Our Greek life is fun, but it doesn't get too crazy. Non-Greek students view Greek students the same as any other student. There is very little Greek housing available.

Personal Safety on Campus

As a student at Slippery Rock University, I feel safe when I walk back to my dorm room from my night classes. I have never felt unsafe in my entire time at the University. I see the University Police Officers patroling / driving around campus daily and the crime rate on campus is very low in my opinon.

Somewhat Edible

The dining halls serve the same foods every day. There is a separate restaurant that has better food, but no matter where you go on campus there is no "good" food if you wanted any.

There is always something to do and someone to hang out with! it really is a great place to be when school is in session.

Walk on campus—not only is it good for you, but I have been walking to class for four years and never had a problem. When I drove, I didn't get a spot in a commuter lot and got a ticket for parking in the faculty section.

You can't beat the new suite-like...

You can't beat the new suite-like dorms. With two people to every bathroom, it is nice not to worry about sharing germs with 50 other people on your floor. The only problem is that Building F is really far away from campus—I wouldn't want to live there.

The dorms at Slippery Rock are the best in our area. With six new dorm buildings, they are in really good shape. Rhoads and North are still available to live in, but I would avoid those at all costs.

Boozel is a lot better now that it got renovated. Rocky's still has the best food, but it's more expensive and will most likely cost you more than a meal. The wraps from Cyber Fresh will make your life better.

The dining halls are fine. Boozel was recently redone, so it is very nice inside. Rocky's is another place to eat on campus that offers a variety of food. I ate a lot on campus my freshman and sophomore years, but I mostly go grocery shopping and cook at my apartment now.

The food is horrible at the dining halls. The salad bar is sometimes okay. If you go to Rocky's you can get better food, but it comes at an extra cost, so be prepared for that.

Since Slippery Rock is a pretty small town, public transportation isn't a huge issue. We have the Happy Bus, which is only convenient for certain people and locations. Honestly, though, everything is within a 1-2 mile radius of the college, so walking is the easiest form of "public transportation" here.

No there is nothing really but the Happy Bus, which is a little yellow-and-white school bus that takes people around campus. I think we should have more transportation options.

All of the new residence halls are extremely nice, but F is really far from campus. The new halls all have individual bathrooms and a decent amount of space and storage. The older residence halls aren't that bad either.

It's usually pretty easy to move off campus after your first year. Most people do move off campus after their first year, which doesn't make sense because the residence halls are really nice.

There are no clubs anywhere near...

There are no clubs anywhere near Slippery Rock. There are a couple bars in town, and they're always jam-packed because that's all there is to do if you're 21. There are plenty of parties around Slippery Rock, but once I turned 21, I stopped going because the bar is a lot more fun than a house party. Plus, they are always getting busted.

Boozel is pretty amazing looking, but no matter where you eat on campus the food is awful!

Ginger Hill is the local cool bar....

Ginger Hill is the local cool bar. Everything else is a frat party or you have to know someone with an apartment who likes to party. I think the small parties are the best. Frat parties have the same people every week and it gets old.

I love Cyber Fresh wraps and salads at Rocky's. Most of the food is decent.

The dorms are very nice. They are all suites and are amazing inside. We also have a few older dorms, which are have the typical communal bathroom and sharing of rooms among two or three people.

We demolished our old dorms and built new ones in place of them. They are very nice and are more like a hotel than what you would imagine dorms to be like. The on-campus apartments, called ROCK Apartments, are very nicely built, as well, if you choose to stay on campus for your time here.

Since it's a dry campus, the parties on campus are pretty harmless with alcohol and drugs. There are a total of three bars in Slippery Rock, and Ginger Hill Tavern is the main bar that everyone goes to. This isn't a large bar to begin with, which can result in waiting in line to get in and being smooshed when you're in there. If you're looking for a bigger bar scene, Pittsburgh is not far away.
