Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

Rain, sleet, and snow will all be part of your daily life if you come to SRU. Slippery Rock weather will school you in the extremes, especially in the winter. The Rock is often plagued by lake-effect snow, and the winters are hard to shake, usually lasting into April. However, spring and autumn transform the rural area into a beautiful landscape. The turning leaves of autumn and the budding flowers and treetops of spring are simply breathtaking in Western Pennsylvania.

When summer weather finally hits, the heat and humidity is intoxicating, making for uncomfortable classroom climates. On sunny days, the campus becomes quite animated with students playing Frisbee, sunbathing, picnicking, or studying in the open grass of the quad. Due to the instability of the weather, it is recommended that students pack an assortment of clothes to fit the ever-changing temperatures. Remember, though, that winter consumes most of the school year, so pack light on the strappy dresses, shorts, and halters. Instead, think about gear that you would bring to the arctic tundra—and definitely don’t forget your umbrella!

Where's the Sun?

Always either rainy or snowy. I miss the sun! There is some beautiful fall weather though.

Snow and Rain University

The weather at Slippery Rock University is very crazy and unpredictable. Although, many people from Pennsylvania know that's how the weather usually is. SRU gained the nickname Snow and Rain University for its bad weather but that's to be expected when you live in this part of PA.

Oh the Weather...

The weather greatly affects campus experience at Slippery Rock University. It rains at least once a week there, and an umbrella is not entirely useful. It is so windy in Slippery Rock that it breaks umbrellas. The winters are also very unpleasant. Because it is so windy, the wind chill is a big factor. It allows the melted snow to freeze and leave ice everywhere. Students become extremely excited when there is a sunny or warm day.
