For a town of only 30,000, Northampton boasts a surprising array of restaurant and dining options. From coffeeshops to gourmet restaurants, there’s something for everyone! Downtown offers choices for anyone looking to get off campus for a nice meal out. Students, however, say that they don’t get to enjoy all of the restaurants Northampton has to offer because they’re either too busy or too broke. Most of the restaurants, like many of the stores, don’t cater to college students and are too pricey for regular dining. Often, eating out is reserved for special occasions or when family is in town. There are cheap options in the many diners and cafés, but most of them don’t have wait service, which many students want when they treat themselves to a night out. When students venture out on the town, they often pick Viva Fresh Pasta Co., Bueno Y Sano, La Veracruzana, or India House for the good food and fair prices. La Veracruzana does not have wait service and has a more casual atmosphere than many of the other restaurants, making it cheap and easy to go out to dinner with friends. A local business called Delivery Express offers food delivery services from an impressive array of restaurants and cafés in the Northampton area. With only a nominal fee and late-night hours, this is an attractive option for students unwilling or unable to make the trek downtown for local fare.

Downtown Is Great
A-
There are tons of little restaurants downtown on the main streets that are easily within walking distance. Some of them can be a little expensive, but if you need a break from campus food there's plenty of options. I like the chinese restuarant Teapot. If you want something a little less fancy you can always take the PVTA over to the mall only a 20-30min ride away.

Northampton Eats
A
Northampton has a really good array of restaurants. There are many types of asian cuisine, along with several great cafes and healthfood-y places. Just about something for everyone.

Bit Pricey, but There Are Some Gems!
B-
Herrell's is positively fabulous ice cream and you need to treat yourself at least once before you die. As for real food...there are certainly plenty of restaurants in Noho, including lots of those "mom & pop" places you feel good about supporting. but honestly, what college student has the money to eat out? call dominoes if it's midnight and you're high & starving, or meander down to the 24hr 7/11 if it's 3am and you're past caring.

Off-Campus Dining Is Some of the Best I've Ever Seen
A+
The variety of off-campus dining is amazing for such a small town! There really is something for everyone, whether you're taking about type of food, cost or atmosphere, and all within walking distance of Smith. For a quick, pretty cheap meal, check out Local Burger. When your parents are paying, Spoleto's, Mama Iguana and Zen are all great bets. My favorite place, though, is Amanouz Cafe, which has the best Moroccan sandwiches! It's always a temptation to eat in town.

Northampton's Not NYC, but...
A-
Northampton offers a wide variety of good food, and usually at a decent price. It's not the most chic or gourmet cuisine you'll ever experience... but it's worth what you pay. Indeed, the best place in Hamp is the Brewery, a casual, American/Continental restaurant with great beer and food. Overall, a down-to-earth dining experience.
