Rec center is a great place on campus. The library and UC are always filled with people and have plenty of offices and places to study.

Overall it is a good school. In a way it feels like you are back in high school again because of class size, but that is good. For most of my classes the teacher always ends up knowing my name. As with any new experience, you make it how you want it. I cant answer how awesome social and campus life are, because it just hasnt happened for me. But for the people who do actually have a life at SEMO, it seems to be a pretty fun campus. Just enjoy it and put everything into it that you can. The teachers I have had do actually care and want you to succeed

SEMO does provide transportation around campus. I dont use it often, because it is far easier to hike up the hills than it is to use the bus system. Every time I do try to use the system, The drivers barely even stop. It definitely isnt reliable

My problem with financial aid is mainly the people in charge of it. Everyone ive ever dealt with have been so unbelievably rude I try not to go there. Luckily the main office I deal with is VA, and the biggest hassle I ever had with them is that it wasnt electronic. This past semester they switched all the forms to be electronic. Again if they would fire everyone in the FA office and hire new people the whole campus would be a lot happier.

Pretty much all at the UC (ive never been to any of the places for dorms), so a whole side of campus is pretty much empty. They did just add a subway on the new side of campus, but it is so unbelievably slow it is easier to get in your car and go to a real subway. All the prices are pretty pricey, and dont have much variety at all it seems.

Apparently they do throw good parties. Like anyone else, when walking around campus they look stuckup wearing their letters, but in class as you see their personality they arent so bad. They are diverse as well, they do not only have the preppy, stuck up party girl in the chapter.

Right around campus downtown, there are quite a few pizza and Chinese places, and then in Cape there are a lot of Mexican and more Chinese as well. There is a Thai place right across from a dorm building. They seem to be getting more in the area as SEMO gets more diverse as well. Cost definitely isnt an issue, but sadly not many places at all give discounts. Fav Chinese place? Chans. One of my ultimate favorite places to eat. El Torero's is a very popular Mexican restaurant that many people, especially students, go to. A new Mexican place opened up right downtown across the campus, called El Sol which is pretty good too.

Intramural sports are pretty popular on campus. Many frats and sororities will do them. When there is actually good weather, people will be out playing frisbee. The rec center always has people in it, and it is all clean and updated. It can get crowded, but you just have to know what time to go to miss the crowds. Football and basketball are pretty big in this area...mainly basketball I think with SEMO. I dont go to games much, so I cant say how many students are at the games.

Overall Cape is a good and safe town. I was born and raised here. It definitely gets boring around here because as a local I feel like nothing is ever offered. Over the past few years though Cape has tried to grow as a whole by rebuilding downtown with more shops. It also seems like theyre trying to add in new activities around the area. Cant hate us for trying!

hahahahahaha haha...well... Southeast Missouri weather..there isnt even a word to describe that. Here is a recent example for you: Beginning of the week was literally 70 degrees, then LITERALLY two days later we had an inch of ice, three inches of sleet, then 10 inches of snow. Southeast Missouri truly has very crazy weather, and teachers do understand the weather situation since so many people commute to school.

For the most part campus is filled with hometown people, or within a 100 mile radius of Cape, but SEMO has quite a bit of Asians and Indians as well. They are always in their ethnic groups, but in all the classes I have taken at SEMO, they are not left out by any means. Everyone in class will welcome them like anyone else, I have never seen an instance where they push a student out for being from a different part of the world. I've always enjoyed the diversity because you get different opinions, but a lot of the times they are shy which makes sense.

Okay so I cannot say that I am active in school, so this almost isnt even fair to answer in a way. But on the academic side, I feel like I have in fact learned a lot. I was fortunate enough to have one wonderful teacher for all my science/medical classes, but for the maaaannnyyyy general education classes you need, the teachers are alright. The faculty really is terrible. Everyone I have had to deal with are so so rude!! If they fired everyone and rehired people who are actually pleasant, I would stay.

Parking on campus is SUCH a pain!!! The campus police have a division for students to have jobs by going around and giving people tickets if they do not have a permit for that area of campus. You may think you won't get caught....you will. With the campus being hilly the perimeter (furthest away from campus) is such a pain. Spots are constantly filled it seems. its always smart to show up about 20 minutes before class, to be safe just in case you have to park even further away than purchased or intended. There is VERY little free parking on campus, manly side streets. There arent even any open at 9pm on campus it seems. With SEMO, no matter what parking permit you got, make sure to have a good pair of shoes. you will be walking A LOT!!!

Health & Safety:
campus police and other faculty always around campus, and with the campus being a tad packed (depending where you are), I personally have never felt unsafe. In the newer area of campus, they have it well lit, but in the older areas it is a tad dark after twilight, but I do believe they are actually working on that! They have emergency speaker/phones everywhere on campus, and they do respond when they are needed!

The weather is typical Missouri weather--you don't like it, wait ten minutes and it'll likely change. For some it makes life interesting, but others do not like the unpredictability.
College Senior 2013-11-22T17:00:01Z
The school shuttles are not always punctual, but for classes, they are not really needed. Everything is within walking distance. For off-campus, most people would probably say a car is necessary. For shopping, groceries or otherwise, it's a distance that most students do not care to walk.

Health & Safety:
There's hardly any voilence on campus. Safety is not an issue.
College Senior 2013-11-22T16:54:00Z
Basically, people at SEMO see minorities on equal terms with the majority. I've never heard of an instance in which a minority was discriminated against.
College Senior 2013-11-22T16:49:38Z
Basically, if you are nice and don't go crazy with partying, you're not going to have troubles with the police or campus security.

Experiences are all about making memories, whether from learning or socializing. At SEMO, there's plenty of both. I love to learn in general and in particular, I love my double major in anthropology and German. Overall, there was hardly a day that went by, that I regretted going to class to learn, discuss and be with friends that love to talk about my majors as much as I do.

The financial aid process is easy enough to understand and follow. There are not miles of red tape to work around as in some universities and businesses. I recieved the financial aid with no problem.
College Senior 2013-11-22T16:39:06Z
I love the anthropology and foreign language department. It's small and for the most part, we all know each other. The professors are wonderful and know how to keep a good mix of challenging and intriguing.
College Senior 2013-11-22T16:39:06Z
The registration process is easy to follow; the professors keep the classes interesting, but also keep you working; the workload is never too much that you are consumed by it and there's enough unique oppertunities through the university to keep it ever interesting. For example, I'm studying for the next year in Germany through my university.

The biggest sport is of course football, but there is also basketball, baseball, softball, soccer and more for both varsity and intramural. The facilities are good for both also.
