The campus is beautiful. Self-contained, not too big. You can walk everywhere you need to go on campus. We have a great new gym/wellness center.

It's a few minute's drive into town, but there are great restaurants everywhere. Yellow Deli is a favorite in Chattanooga, China Kitchen in collegedale.

Health & Safety:
I feel so safe I take walks by myself. They have honest people so there is not a lot of theft or crimes. I have left my door open at times accidentally and nothing has happened. A lot of people are nice so they have found my ID card or book and returned it. The police are always on campus making sure things are okay, but for the most part nothing has happened. I love that!

I have free WiFi on my own computer which is provided by Southern. However, on my first year I did not have a computer so I had to go to the library and they have many. They also numerous labs to go to in each building. The student center also has a few which is even more secluded.

There is a variety of ethnic places such as Hispanic restaurants, my favorite is El Matador. They have Thai cuisines, Chinese restaurants, and good Indian restaurants. They have good vegetarian options as well as regular meals which is convenient for a vegetarian. I enjoy the discounts they have such as regular ones from China Kitchen and fast food specials such as domino's (you get 10% off and they have specials at domino's). I would recommend Forbidden City and Ali. Also, El Matador!

Parking permits at Southern Adventist University are very reasonable. I have not experienced having a car on campus, but many of my friends have and I have heard of no complaints. Students do not actually need a car on campus that badly, unless maybe they work off campus, or would like to attend church off campus. There are weekly trips to a local Wal-Mart scheduled for students that are free. I've never seen parking at the dorms run out, but parking by your building for class may become an issue every now and then.

As a Mass Communication major at Southern Adventist University, I am very pleased. I feel as though I am a part of the best school on campus, the School of Journalism and Communication. Our professors are very knowledgeable of their respective areas and care so much for their students and our success. I have enjoyed all of my classes related to my major, they have really pushed me and I feel like I'm being very well prepared for my future. My career goals include working in the news field. I understand that this is a very competitive feel, but I also feel like when I reach graduation, I will be a very marketable applicant.

Southern Adventist University is located in Collegedale, TN, which is about 15-20 minutes from Chattanooga, TN. The weather here can be unpredictable. There's usually the typical "southern" kind of weather, very warm. But last year it rained quite a bit. It would be best to come to Southern with rain boots, umbrella, and a good rain jacket, because our rain season can last a while. Snow is rare, but if it does classes will most like be canceled. Other than that, little to no days of class canceled because of weather.

On campus dining at Southern Adventist University is completely vegetarian/vegan. No meat is served on campus. Student's can eat at the cafe, or campus restaurants such as CKs, KRs, the VM, or the Kayak. The cafe has many options, they also like to experiment a lot with new dishes. The cafe usually very promising. CKs is more of the fast food type of restaurant on campus. KRs is more of the lounge and dine kind of restaurant. The VM is the campus grocery store, that has a deli where students can purchase food as well. The Kayak is located in the wellness center, there students can purchase healthy options and well as made on the spot fruit smoothies. As far as costs, students may learn over time which restaurant serves the greatest value for each meal. For breakfast, the cafe tends to be the best deal. But for lunch and dinner not so much.

Campus dorms at Southern Adventist University are very reasonable. They are relatively nice when it comes to the size of the rooms and have very good upkeep. Dorms are separated by gender and the opposite gender is not allowed in each others rooms except on granted occasions. Both male and female dorms come with entertainment rooms, kitchenettes and laundry rooms. The female dorm has suite style room arrangements with 2 rooms and a shared bathroom among 4. The male dorm uses communal showering areas. Dorms are located in the middle of campus with helps with walking distance. There are also apartments available on campus for upperclassmen.

As a Mass Communication major at Southern Adventist University, internships are a big deal. This major is very competitive and internships look great on a resume and make a student more marketable. The staff from the School of Journalism and Communication do everything they can to assist students with obtaining internships. Often times students emails are filled with internship opportunities.

The process of becoming a Mass Communication major is rather easy. There's no special application process. There are several concentrations under "Mass Communication" that you can pick from. No matter what you choose, you will typically take the same classes for your first two years and then they will get more specific to your concentration most like your last two years. The advisers are very helpful and the entire School of Journalism and Education is a little family where every one matters.

There is a lot to do around Southern, especially for the outdoor loving individuals. The Chattanooga area is developing quite well and there is a lot of nearby shopping and restaurants. Atlanta is not far away and neither is Nashville or Knoxville if you want to get out to larger attractions and concerts.

It's rather strict, but they let you know what you are signing up for and it holds well to the Adventist beliefs.

The cost for the yearly pass is high and the parking is really spread out. It's not bad to find a spot, but you might have to walk a ways.

I am an online student. I believe the diversity is great. It is a religious affiliated campus so that comes into play.

Nursing at Southern is taken very seriously. Southern wants you not only to succeed to but to learn to SERVE not just make money.

There is a good amount of options available to the students of SAU when it comes to finding a place to eat. One of my favorite eatery in Chattanooga is a place called mellow mushroom. Its a great place to eat out with friends and have a good time.

Health & Safety:
Southern Adventist University is an excellent school when it comes to personal safety and campus safety as a whole. I feel completely safe on campus and in the dormitory. Southern is very conservative having zero tolerance policies against drinking and smoking on campus. Southern is the perfect environment to make friends and establish a relationship with God
College Senior 2013-08-05T13:37:48Z
The campus is so small there is no need for transportation. Its great!

There is no Greek life here at Southern. The school doesn't have any fraternities or sororities, but there are many clubs you can join for fun or for good causes!
Sorry, there are no reviews.
