Collegedale and Chattonooga are just boring places in general. Don't come here expecting a lot of livelihood. People are friendly in general. Collegedale seems relatively safe. Hamilton Mall in Chattanoga is nice.

There is a lot to do around Southern, especially for the outdoor loving individuals. The Chattanooga area is developing quite well and there is a lot of nearby shopping and restaurants. Atlanta is not far away and neither is Nashville or Knoxville if you want to get out to larger attractions and concerts.

Lots of tourist type activities and things to do. Very outdoor city. Lot of opportunities to participate in the community.

The campus itself is very beautiful. The greenway and the bio trail is great for exercise. The buildings on campus are new and well developed. Several attractions include Chattanooga's Coolidge Park. It has a beautiful bridge that overlooks the TN river. SAU is about 20 minutes away from the mall. There are lots of chain restaurants around including olive garden, red robins, and pf changs. Shopping is not the best, but Hamilton Mall has a variety of shops including Forever21, Banana Republic, Gap, and Old Navy. I would say that the local attitude towards students is pretty decent. Several shops will have student discounts available if you show your student ID card - Subway, China Kitchen, and China Rose to name a few. There isn't much of a night life. Everything seems to close at around 10 or 11pm. After that, it's hard to find a place to eat or study. There is a police station about 5 minutes away from campus. This makes the area feel a lot safer.
