Campus strictness at SIU is rarely seen, and the rules that are in place are mostly to benefit students.

Over the schools policies are okay. Its something you earn to adjust to easily. If you don't obey by the policies you suffer the consequences at your own stake.

There are hundreds of RSO's and organizations for the students to join to keep them enthusiastic about school. There is an RSO for anything that sparks your interest whether it be for your major, hobby, or just something you feel strongly about (i.e abortion). With these RSO's you learn working together but you also create a family away from your immediate family, you develop relationships and friendships that can be beneficial later.

The police are pretty quick to break up house parties, but which parties are shut down depends on the type of crowd the attract. House parties hosted by black greek organizations tend to be shut down within a couple of hours, while I have been to house parties hosted by white greek organizations, (which are closer to campus) that have cops drive by that don't even stop to check out the scene and the parties go on all night. On one hand, the campus is strict, but on the other hand, it is not. And sadly, how strict it is depends on the color of your skin.

Some of the police can be strict about drinking, while others are not.
