For me I am a traditional student. I need to sit in class, have the hands on and be able to talk to teachers face to face. I have had easy course and hard, for me I like pressure and a workload because that means the teachers are trying to get us to learn as much as we can. Every teacher and class is different, I also believe some teacher are just more invested in us students than others. Students here are all pretty much open and willing to help. I don't believe in my whole time at SMCC, whenever I've asked another student to help me or study together they have declined. We are not a perfect school but we help each other where we can.

For the organized, motivated person, the online math course was perfect. I was responsible for keeping a notebook and managing my time, and didn't have to waste time commuting to school to get what could be communicated through the online forum. All I had to do was come to school for exams. I also liked my online history course, which I took while working out of state one summer - I could submit all my essays online.

I've taken a math class that was completely on line & an algebra & statistics that met weekly in class but all of the work was done online, the programs are excellent & easy to use even for me & I'm 42 yrs. old. The work load is average comparable to a traditional class, the teacher student ratio is also average and the teachers are really great about answering emails, grading work and staying in constant communication with the students.

I do not do well with online classes. I have a hard time focusing at home. It was nice not having to worry about going out in bad weather or scheduling a class around my work schedule. I just don't have a good working environment at home.

I definitely prefer classes at the school compared to online classes. I like having the ability to interact with the students and teacher face to face. However, my online instructor was very nice, and helpful. The other students were engaged as much as you can be from a computer screen. It is helpful if you are a commuter student to have the flexibility of taking online classes, and they are easier to adjust a busy schedule around as long as you keep up your work.
