College Prowler Take
SMU PD is lenient with students and drinking on campus—to an extent. If you are carrying a bottle of beer around a party, they will kindly suggest that you pour the beer into a plastic cup. If you pass out at a party somewhere, or seem belligerent, they will no longer give you the blind eye. The campus police will take care of you and make sure that you are safe. Students belittle the SMU PD but forget that they are just doing their job. The simplest rule to follow is this: practice good judgment. This means you should make sure your door in your dorm room is closed before you start crushing cans on your head. Don’t get into a car with a drunk driver, because you can be guilty just by association. Walk off the bus—don’t tumble. Avoid carrying open containers anywhere on campus. And finally, lock up your liquor! The campus police are aware that students are young and away from home and will make poor decisions every now and then. They act as the fun aunt or uncle from back home that will take care of you, but refrain from telling your parents about your minor offense. Once you step out of the realm of small offenses, it is an entirely different ball game. It is common for an SMU student to have one alcohol violation, but most never receive a second one.

It depends on if you’re stupid. Kids will be kids, and drugs and drinking will happen. If you’re not cautious though, you will get busted, and you’ll at least get a ticket and a hearing. |
